Got mine in ahead of the rain coming in tomorrow. This was the second hopper full, thinking about switching to spray next year.

That’s baller status. But since you mention thinking about spraying next year lets run the numbers on granular vs spraying Dimension/Dithiopyr.

Example I’ll use is 7000sq feet since Hi-Yield comes in a 35lb bag and at 5lbs per 1000 app rate will cover 7000sq feet.

Hi-Yield Dimension granular at Ace Hardware is $40.00 for a 35lb bag. I would apply Hi-Yield Dimension/Dithiopyr at 5lbs per 1000 every 4 months. 1 bag will cover 7000sq feet. So I would need 3 bags for the year. Total cost $120.00 per year. Which equals a cost of $5.71 per 1000sq feet per application.

On the spray I’m going to go with Dimension 2EW from Do My Own. $146.00 for a 64oz jug. Application rate of 0.65 fluid oz per 1000 every 4 months. So I would need 4.55 fluid ounces per 7000sq feet. 13.65oz for the year. Total cost $31.12 per year. Which equals a cost of $1.48 per 1000sq feet per application.

So you’re roughly saving $4.00 per 1000 per application. So saving that $4.00 per 1000 allows your to add other pre emergents like Simazine and Gallery/Isoxaben and spend about the same money as you would just using granular Dimension. Simazine is cheap and great against Poa Annua and Gallery is great against Broadleaf weeds. Gallery comes in a granular but it’s expensive.

To even save more money. You could go with Prodiamine 65WG. Cost on that would run you .40 cents per 1000 per application.

This is my combo and cost per 1000 and year. It's early and I need more coffee but I think my math is correct.

Prodiamine 0.40 x 2 for 2 apps per year 0.80
Simazine 0.17 x 2 for 2 apps per year 0.34
Isoxaben(Gallery) $4.12 x 3 apps per year $12.36

So even using expensive Isoxaben I am cheaper spraying 3 different products than I am using a singular granular. At least compared to Dimension anyway. You can do granular Prodiamine for about $1.70 per 1000.

Not sure about ETX, but NTX we typically get an outbreak of Rescue grass in the winter. Simazine it a good post emergent for it.

Can’t say Applications are as regular as they should be but between the fert, pre-emergent, disease-X, a little sulfur and iron applications, it’s a totally different yard in 1 year. To heck with anyone who’s gonna make fun of my patch of grass. It’s the best looking one on the block.
