Direct from the mouths of some muckity mucks that make and vote on the rules: If we have a repeat of this years harvest numbers and breeding ground counts, we WILL have a 3/39 season. The discussion now is how to split it up. My vote- first 7 days of nov. 7 days at Christmas break. Last 25 days of January. They don't know the 21/22 harvest data till atleast August 15th when license sales and HIP information is collected. They are going off 20/21 harvest info that is being reported now

Anyone know what they do with goose season? Does that get significantly reduced as well?

The reduction of days and/or limits concerns me in regards to losing hunters. We have to protect the resource but I feel several folks just wanting less days and limit so less hunters so we don't have to compete for hunting spots. Sure, I selfishly don't want to see any more waterfowl hunters on public water but for what cost? We need all the hunters and outdoors people we can get. I hate to see anything that might reduce numbers of hunters, especially the young ones even though they tick me off a lot of the time and their social media posts of locations about make me lose my mind. I hate to think where the sanity of this country is going to be if we lose more outdoors people- and I mean men and women. Waterfowl hunting is extremely important to me but I would give that up if it meant there were enough true outdoors people to vote all the liberal, socialist, idiots out of public office.

I'm ready to see the wannabe's leave. All they are there for is pics & showing off. No regards for the resource or other people. Other than missing the days spent outdoors , I loved it when it went to 3/39 in the past.

I certainly know where you are coming from DUKFVR. The young, often new to waterfowl hunting, use to be some of the nicest most respectful kids you could run into anywhere. You would see them in their old little boat if they even had one, cheap hunting clothes, and beat up decoys. They would always be so nice and just wanting to learn and enjoy the experience.
Now you see Sitka, barrel stickers, fully flocked decoys and over the top trucks and boats with payments to the hilt with someone not 30 "owning" them. Those will probably go away with a 39 day season but then I believe it will leave nobody in the younger generations. That concerns me. When I was young I wasn't into the show that much but I was into the pile pics and went over my limit a lot of times. I haven't gotten smart but maybe I have gotten wiser. Maybe some of the wannabe's will grow up and change their focus.
Sometimes short term solutions have long term consequences. I would hate for public opportunities to hunt waterfowl to go away because not enough people do it and speak up about it.

The resource comes first Imo. The hunting industry, while the percentage of the USA is declining in hunters the overall numbers are not. The hunting industry is not going anywhere as its a BUSINESS now for states. If reducing season lengths gets rid of the trash (slob so called hunters) then I'm all for it. Plenty of "business" will still be had for the states. Remember were in Tx....where deer are king. Serious waterfowl hunting doesn't start until mid Dec...which accounts for a......45 day season....not far from 39
