I totally agree with you Bill on staying with the moderate loads. Way easier on the equipment! I originally loaded my 300 AR, using your load data, and stayed more on the conservative side. I put my 300 together when your barrels were first available and at the time I had no chronograph to see where my velocities were. I just judged it by "animals on the dirt". I am very fond of my 300 AR but at the end of the day I am still a dedicated bolt guy and is the reason I am building one. I would not be spending the money if I didn't think this caliber has so much merit as many others do! I think you have done an amazing job on your load data development and making it readily available to all. I was surprised when I plugged some numbers in QuickLoad In saw the pressure figures. That's when I reached out with this thread to find out what others were finding with case capacities. QuickLoad is showing a default of 32.2 which is much higher than the "average" of around 30grains others are seeing and that makes a huge pressure difference. I understand there are other factors that come into play to. I know I should just use your data and not complicate my life! Lol... It's great to have so many folks to get good info from and I appreciate it.

My headspace gauges from PTG and WC Ruger barrel should be here today. I will get the barrels swapped next week and report back to the group. Donor rifle is a RAR 300 BO Ranch rifle with the AR mag. Will be a nice addition to my 300 Ham'r fleet

Glad you're getting your barrel Spongecop! I have been waiting on my Criterion for 5 months and expect it in the next couple of weeks. The wait has been killing me! I have a doner 6BR rifle I'll be using. That's one thing I really like about the barrel nut system making easy barrel changes. I would really be interested in hearing your project results .

Big Boar goes down from small bullet! 80yd shot, Lehigh Defense 110gr Controlled Chaos, DRT. Looks like his lungs were scrambled.

This is the biggest boar I've taken so far in 2021, shot him last night at 11pm

Holy snouts!

Do you need a gardener? How about an assistant box packer or broom boy? Will work for hog hunting but be warned, i'm not worth a plug nickle until after 10am after hunting all night.

That's a beast of a hog Bill! I have played with the 110 Lehigh and had good luck with it on deer and hogs with the 300. I do try and do all head/neck shots so I don't have to "go into the cactus" to find animals. I have been a fan of the 110 Barnes since the days I was shooting the 300 BLK. I even use the WC 7.62x40 Barnes in my 308 at reduced speeds of 2700fps and have been using it for a few years with great results. Going with a bolt action may give me chances to use different bullets since I can use it as a single shot. If I get real mad at the hogs I can always drag out the 300AR for crowd control. I know a lot of folks don't favor the small bullet but they can be very effective.

FYI I found CFE BLK on Midsouth and at Hodgdon this morning. If any are looking for powder, now is the time!

As far as over all performance like velocity, accuracy, and terminal performance goes; which is one the the top choice between the 110 gr. Lehigh CC and the Speer 125 gr. TNT. I have shot the TNT and have really been impressed with the accuracy on paper. I haven’t had the opportunity to try them on game yet. I don’t have any experience with the Lehigh CC at all for any caliber, in fact, this is the first I am hearing about there product.

I really am interested in these rounds as a varmint, hog, and great on deer. I like frangible rounds (some people do not) for deer, one of the most important reason why is that I do want over penetration. I shoot a lot of management deer every year at the feeder and never want the risk of a pass through that wounds a buck I want to keep.

Is there another round that I’m not considering that has even better performance (especially suppressed) that I’m not considering? I have a WC Tactical Hunter 18 in that came with the 1-15 twist barrel and I’ve read it’s optimal for the the lower grain sized rounds.

I appreciate everyone’s input.

Look at the Hornady 110gr V-MAX (these have been available lately) or the 110gr SP, both of these bullets shoot really well at around 2600fps too

110vmax.

Quit spying on my texts Mr Willson. Lol

I've got the top round in each of my hunting mags loaded with a pet vmax load to test on hog necks and heads in a couple weeks. It is RIDICULOUSLY accurate and moves down range pretty good. The best part is that its less than 1" POI difference than the 125gr tnt load in my primary gun. I figured if it passed the neck test it should be fine for doe culls in the same circumstances listed above

Getting ready to pull the trigger on a 300. Other than the loss of a FPS is there any pros or cons on a 16 or 18 in barrel. Picked up a protector series with 16 in barrel & it was sweet. No one around me has a 18 in rifle in stock. Always had longer barrel ar's. Just wondering if the 18 in gun still feels as balanced & sweet as the 16 in gun.
Thanks for any help or info.

I have both and found that I normally reach for the 16" version over the 18" rifle. I think it is just the balance even thought everyone is feel the balance just a bit differently. Velocity difference isn't enough to matter in real life.

Hate to do it, but I just don't have the time to work up a load and load the ammo for it. All my brand new 300 HAM'R loading stuff and WC upper parts are for sale in the classifieds if anyone is interested into getting into the HAM'R game.

You’re going to regret that. Load work up is done, use Bill’s numbers and you’ll be within a couple tenths powder charge. You could shoot his exact load and be minute of pig. It hits quite a bit harder.

Good deal for someone to get in the game. KRoyal is one of the good guys, don’t hesitate to buy from him.

I know I probably will regret it like I do most things I sell lol. Might just carve out some time on my progressive and knock it out.

I've gone back and reviewed some of the posts with ballistics numbers from different length bbls and different rounds. Does anyone have numbers on the Lehigh 110gr CC round out of an 11.3" and/or 8" bbl? I've got an 11.3 I'm getting ready to set up and I will probably get an 8" bbl when they are back in stock to swap out my 8" blk and have both chambered in 300 HAM'R. I am thinking of going with this 110 Lehigh round and curious how it performs out of the shorter bbls.

I don't have any data for anything lighter than 130gr for a 8" barrel, but here's what I get with the 130gr HHC load

16" 2474fps
11.3" 2322fps
8" 2164fps

Based on the data I have for all these bbl lengths with 130gr, 135gr and 150gr the lighter the bullet the more the velocity loss is as the bbl gets shorter. Surprisingly the velocity loss is basically the same with CFEBLK or the faster burn rate SOCOM powder.

For my personal needs and application I consider any AR with a barrel shorter than 11" as pretty useless in any caliber

I run the 110gr Lehigh's in my 11.3in home defense gun. Your post reminded me that I need to get some chrono data for the load. I did an abbreviated load development this Spring using only 12 rounds. Although the data from WC lists 29.4gr of CFE BLK as MAX LOAD I settled on 28.0gr. I'm guestimating that it's going around 2300fps, but I will confirm that and report back after my next range trip.

Thanks Bill,
I'm beginning to see the limitations of the 8". I've been playing with ballistics charts and doing comparisons using some of your longer shots that you have posted that had good terminal performance to see what the numbers were for those rounds and distances to achieve that, and then comparing those numbers against the 8" and 11.3" bbls to see how far they can touch with the same velocity and fpe. It seems the 8" in 300 blk at least, drops below those effective numbers just before 50 yards. Using that same math on an 11.3" HAM'R it moves that out to around 170yds. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the playground that you have so I am limited to playing with the numbers rather than field proofing things. So I'm still only hypothesizing this stuff the best I can.
I have learned a ton from this thread and thank you for sharing all of the information you do.

That is awesome. Thank you. I hope to have my 11.3" done soon and get it to the range.

In regard to your 8" question - I haven't run my 110CC load through the chrono, but I have run the Hornady 110 SP and a couple of others.

Here's some numbers for comparison.

Hornady 110SP
8" - 2360
11" - 2500
16" - 2695

Speer 123 gold dot
8" - 2300
11" - 2405
16" - 2540

Speer 150gr BTSP
8" - 1960
16" - 2240

Speer 125 TNT
11" - 2290
16" - 2510

Lehigh 110 CC
11" - 2470
16" - 2640

Does anyone have the spec for minimum performance velocity on the Lehigh 110 controlled chaos?
It's not listed on the WC site and I would like to smash some math & figure out some effective ranges before I triple my per shot bullet cost.

I don't get 10" .308 & the 8" AR uppers in a caliber that isn't designed for subs. Other than shooting subsonic rounds the only other redeeming quality that comes to mind is that they may hide a little better under a trench coat. It's not like I'm not on the SBR or pistol train being I have my share of them but in a HAM'R it's like cobbling a 3 cylinder Geo Metro motor in a Classic muscle car.

scratch

Well, I understand your point, but have to disagree with you. Yes, you lose significant performance from a 16" rifle. However, there are certain circumstances where a 16" rifle cannot be easily concealed or maneuvered in a vehicle. As a bag gun, my 8" 300 ham'r pushing a 110gr Hornady 110SP at 2360fps is more devastating than any 223 or 300 blackout can ever even think about being in that size and with a folding or retractable stock it can be concealed in a relatively small bag.

Hornady advertises their 300 blackout 110gr vmax at a velocity of 2375fps out of a 16" barrel and I don't hear too many people talking about how ineffective that would be in a defensive situation and my 8" 110gr sp load is going 2360fps. For it's intended use, I think it is a tremendous option.

Now, if you can fit an 11" or a 16" is that better? Of course, but it a concealed situation, I don't feel anywhere near undergunned with my 8" hammer.

The more I read this thread and other articles the more I want one. I always thought 300 blk was a stupid round unless you're shooting a suppressed sbr, but this seems to have a good punch. I just bought my first barrel from WC (6.5C), so hopefully, it performs great and gives me the confidence to buy another barrel.

Do these larger .30 caliber rounds tend to heat up the barrel fast? The largest AR-15 caliber I have currently is a 6.8. I see a "ranch" model that interests me, but looks awfully skinny.
