We have a week of rain showers in the forecast but not much per day unless we get a thunderstorm. I am planting 25 acres of oats and winter peas for a friend and we decided to wait till after this rain event. Really dusty and dry right now, so don't want to dry plant and then only get a small amount to sprout the seed. He has a no-till drill so I can plant into wetter soil if we get the rain and have a better chance at success. Other thing is army worms, been really dry now for last 9 weeks and with the heat I am worried if we get rain, then green up with the heat we will have army worms. If the nights get really cooler for a week or more then they won't be an issue.

Greg Z, I guess you are hunting around Waskom or Karnack. I live between Longview and Hallsville (close to HY-80) and have a 4 foot, 3-Point disk that if you are close by, you are welcome to borrow. If you are interested, PM me and I will give you directions and a phone number.

I got mine in the ground this past week. I plowed in August right after a good rain. Not a drop of rain since. I went back over it with a tandem, put out fertilizer, and went over it with a harrow. Finished drilling the seed in yesterday. Sure was dusty!

Way too dry in Mills county right now. I have 15 acres that we missed plowing in July after the last good rain. I've shredded it but we need at least .75" of solid rain to soften it up.

put in 5 plots on my little place south of Oatmeal on Sunday. The forecast is looking good for this week into the weekend. We put in plots at our east TX lease a couple of weeks ago when the last Hurricane was supposed to bring rains but I think it turned more east and not even sure we got a sprinkle

We are planting wheat in NW Tx and we are looking at it like STx. Its been so dry we are hoping for some rain this week and then plant and then hope for rain again. That may be a lot of hoping but we will see.
On my new place up north the landowner planted our(his/our) 80 ac wheat field last week and it looks like we are getting rain this week so we will see.

I would love to plant my plots this weekend, if the rain holds off enough to allow it.

I will plant about 2.5 acres of the justin seed fall mix with clover spread over 3 plots, and then about 1.5 acres of wheat/oat mix.

Was a little behind on my prep for this season for a number of reasons, but with the dry ground I am not sure I would have drilled the seed until we got some moisture anyway.

So do you have 4 plots totaling 2.5 ac and a 4th that’s 1.5 ac?? Just curious. I’ll be up in your world tomorrow for several days- just wanna see what rain looks like. I’ll be working, not hunting yet.

Well, the landowner decided to dry plant Monday morning with the expectation of rain for the next week. His forecast was calling for 3"-5" of rain this week. I dusted in 25 acres of oats and winter winter on Monday afternoon and Tuesday. The owners forecast called for 2.9" of rain yesterday evening. Got done at 3pm and it rained starting at 7pm. Had just under 6" last night. I had sprayed the plots to kill grass and weeks on Sept 1. Having a no-till drill to use was really nice but still dusty. The owner plants at a heavy seed rate...100# of oats and 100# of Austrian Winter peas/acre. If it rains it does great and if it don't, then it don't matter what seed rate you use. Will fertilize after the threat of army worms is gone and a good chance of rain.
These pics are from one of 11 food plots at a blind location. This blind has 2 plots and two other blinds had 2 plots also, rest had one plot of various sizes.

Took a chance dusting my fall grain in, but got .4" rain Tuesday evening and 1.5" rain last night. Now if I can keep the hogs out of it, and army worms out, might get a decent crop.

Landowner planted our(his) 80 acre wheat field a week ago Monday. We got 1.5" Tues and an inch today. Looks likely a good bit more coming next 48 hours. Should be good-Im pleased. Kinda twiddling my thumbs up here in camp today with it being wet but no complaints.

Finally getting some rain on our plots today. We seeded two weeks ago ahead of several days with moderate rain chances, only to not get any measurable amount what so ever until last night. So now we wait and see how things go from here. Fingers crossed it all comes up as it should. Will go check on it next weekend hoping to see some sprouts popping up.

All the stuff I planted 10 days ago is sprouting. Hoping for more rain in North-Texas this week, and that would ensure a great start for this planting.
Supposed to get hot today/tomorrow, and rain mid-week.

scratched in another 50# of plot mix today. I have turkeys already grazing oats I planted in the far back a month ago.
Rain tonight about to hit, and more in forecast mid-week for n-tx, and hopefully the 90's temps will be gone for the season!

Checked our plots this weekend.Oats are coming up fairly strong even with the marginal amount of rain we've had. Seeing some of the peas and other stuff trying to pop up as well. Went ahead and hit the plots with 280lbs of 13-13-13 per acre, then got a nice rain last night with more forecast later this week.

I had been stressing the last few weeks since we seeded ahead of a decent rain forecast that turned out to be completely wrong. The seed laid there for two weeks before any moisture fell. Big relief to see the plots filling in, even if a couple weeks behind.

I sprayed early September and in late September ran the disc over both my 2 acre plots. Finally made a run to our property on Sunday and dropped a bunch of 13-13-13 fertilizer + wildlife seed. Sunday night it rained 0.75" and got more rain today!!

It's time to hunt!!
