For the ‘big drugs’ after the RC surgery, they prescribed Oxy-something. It’s effective, but I swear it isn’t the same every dose. Took a pill in the early hours of yesterday, and it didn’t dull the pain as much as usual, and I hurt pretty bad for 4 hours. The next pill was fine. The pill I took at 10 am this morning was way stronger and put me to sleep in my chair.
They don’t all seem to be exactly the same. Can that be? Or am I just ‘on drugs and confused?

Could have to do with the amount of food in your system when taking it.
I personally will NOT take any narcotic as it simply does not agree with me and have read far too many horror stories of how easily addiction can be on them. I'll load up an OTC meds alternating them if need be for pain.

You have a loading dose (first dose) then a maintenance dose (second dose) that's why the first one didn't do much but the second one did.
You probably went all, or most of the night, with no meds, so you had to get a loading dose first thing in the morning.
And no, one tablet to the next is not different. They are right on the money, like weighed charge hand loaded ammunition.

Your body gets acclimated to it pretty quickly and it doesn’t work as good the longer you take it. I’ve been on the chit for a long time and this is exactly how people get addicted to the stuff. It takes more the longer your on it to do the same thing a single pill did originally. I could have my PHD on the ins and outs of this stuff but don’t become a statistic with this mess.
Honestly I know you hurt but tough through as much as you can now because when PT starts your going to be hating life and I can 100% guarantee you the docs will be throttling you way back at that point since this Opioid crisses hit making the ones needing the stuff suffer.
Sounds nutty but round up some CBD oil and start taking it, it helps me rest when I’m hurting really bad so it’s definitely worth a shot..

Much truth spoken already here. They have their place but those things are the devil. After the first fill, you’re already slightly addicted if you pay attention to your body. Slippery slope so . . . pay attention. They mess with the mind more than people think. Use for when pain is truly unbearable. Don’t develop a routine

I’m supposed to not use Advil, or anything with blood thinners, for a while longer after the surgery. It’s been only about 3 1/2 days since the operation.
Until the last couple of days, and the surgery, I had no idea how many of our forum folks had a bunch of operations. We appear to be a beat up bunch.

No operation here. Separated my left front ribs from my sternum. They don’t make a cast for that. Had to live on them for a while, then didn’t ever feel the need to stop. FF about 15 years later my Dad passed away, prompting me to get a thorough physical that scared me into quitting cold turkey. I’d have to be unconscious and forced to take them now. It’s rare I even take Tylenol because I have a mental block about it.
Like I said, slippery slope to be on. I’m lucky to have been able to quit. Coupled with the other stuff I weaseled my way into getting scrips for, quitting was the worst period of my life and I don’t wish that on my worst enemy. Being around for my family was just too important to me.
Be mindful, do not develop a routine because it’s that easy to go from truly needing them to making yourself believe you do, not to mention long term affects they can and will cause.

If you ever get the opportunity to watch the biography about Brett Favre, he speaks candidly about how he realized that he had a problem. If I remember the description was that he took them post surgery as prescribed. Then he realized one night that he was staying awake just to take them for the enjoyment.

Yes BiL, that has been the case, but things have improved somewhat today. I have run out of pickled beets though. They do a fine job for me.

Pickled beets scare me every time I eat em! I always get startled, then remember I had beets.

I got off the drugs and slowly got back into sharp pain. So, back on the drugs and the ice. I’m up and awake right now for more ice. Man, I’ll be happy to get past this. I’m reminded that ice isn’t just for whiskey.

I’m reminded that ice isn’t just for whiskey. 603, I had 4 bypass surgery last summer and then fell on steps, damaging ribs, overall pretty good pain. My Dr recommended Tylenol Arthritis 1000 mg x2 , 3 times a day. Did great for me, with no side effects. I like you do not take blood thinner meds, Tylenol is not a blood thinner.
