30 years ago my grandmother was big into tracing our family lineage and found that we went back to the late 1600’s and a story where most of our ancestral family were killed by Indians in what is now upstate New York. Curious to know how far back y’all go. I worked with a guy whose family was one of the original 300 in Texas and always thought that was cool.

Wifeypoo's family got back to some horse thieves and didn't stop. It didn't get any better.

Recently found out that my grandfather on my dads side was a bank robber.
We found newspaper accounts.

I tried to do mine 8-10 years ago. One side of the family I made it back to France 1600 ish. Might even made it back farther that that but can’t remember.

My great grandmother was a LeFlore, as in LeFlore county in Oklahoma, Greenwood LeFlore Chief of the Choctaw nation. They named an Airport after him in Mississippi, Greenwood airport. It was pretty easy to trace the LeFlores, but other sides of the family couldn’t get very far, not a lot of records.

Thanks, Billy

I traced our family back to 1500's southern Germany a few years ago.

Going back on paper can't be trusted especially if it was back in the day...... before DNA testing... it has to be cross checked by DNA testing. DNA has me in San Antonio and Northern Mexico going back to the 1750s

Not sure much further back my grandmother actually got but we are descendants of a veteran of the battle of San Jacinto.

I will say this, you can find out a lot about your family when you start poking around. I did the 123me DNA test thing and ran across a second cousin I didn’t know about. He is a retired LSU collage professor. He knew all about my dads side of the family. He even sent me the obituary of the guy my grandfather shot and killed. Also the article where my grandfather was convicted of murder, which maybe should have been self defense.

Thanks, Billy

Grandmother on Dad's side started on it before there was an internet. She's got the line to honerable discharge papers from the Continental Army (post Revolutionary War). Back to Scotland before the first one took the big boat ride west. Not sure what years she made it back in time. She made me a three ring binder with all the family history. I need to get the out and look again.

She will be 99 years old this December. Her and Grandad were born in 1922. He died in 1998.

My BIL tried to on his side of the family. Their roots are in Arkansas so basically their tree doesn't branch.

Know of 4 generations back in Texas on Dads side, then a large gap til they came over from Sweden. Brother probably has the info. Couldn’t get any info out of grandmother on moms side. She lived to be 101.5 yo. They were from up north(Yankees).

I traced mine back to 1643 when my ancestry came over to get away from the civil war in England. I have found 8 ancestors that fought in the American Revolution and was able to prove one of those and become a member of the Sons of The American Revolution. Lots of cool stories about their service and sacrifice. I have two ancestors that were at Valley Forge. I can go back even further, but i'm not sure I can prove any of it. It's been a fun and awesome hobby to learn about my family's history. Found out it was my mom's side of the family that was the wild crazy side.

I can trace all four sides, my paternal grandfathers side traces back to 1635 in Virginia, paternal grandmothers to 1642 in Virginia, maternal grandfather to 1663 in Quebec and maternal grandmother to 1922 in Massachusetts. Out of all of it the things what I treasure the most, is a letter from a Quaker minister that stayed with my maternal grandmothers fore-bearers, it described how they lived in early 1700's in North Carolina.

Since we came from England in the 1600's, and settled in Virginia, I guess I can still claim my Southern roots. The family castle is still standing in England tho.

Dang, that is the same problem we are having in searching our family history. Someone back in the day in Arkansas couldn't read my grandfathers signature and put 2 M's in his last name. My grandmother and father only have 1 M in their last name on the records. Still trying to verify I am on the correct track before I spend too much time chasing bad leads.
