My better half wants to go to the Texas coast for a week in late October to fish. By fish like fish every day we are there.Galveston is not an option on this one as we both have been and did not like anything about it. It was actually the nastiest Texas beach we had been.
So..........well we like SPI and CC. I also hear Port Aransas is good for fishing. We will be doing the pier and harbor, park type fishing. We are not doing the guided stuff as we have in the past and not doing the party boats for 2 red snapper. Looking more at sitting and watching and hoping we get a bite.
Gimme some ideas There are some good spots around Corpus on the Island. Plenty of different areas you can catch fish from the shore, beach, and piers. Just driving from Flour Bluff across the causeway you will see quite a few folks along the shoreline next to the bridge on the south side of it fishing every day. Many will wade out a couple hundred yards as well. You can also fish the packery channel jettie or go north up to Port A and fish that Jettie as well. If you do the Jetties thing the Packery channel is my favorite spot, Port A jetties will eat a lot of your gear, especially if the current is flowing. You can also fish the surf and kick back too. Let me know where you go, and I'll tell you the spots I hit. I fish from goose Island area to Padre Island National seashores. Agree with Packery and National Seashore. Bird Island Basin is not bad. Some Reds also caught around Oso Bay too wading.

Nice casual pier fishing on Humble Channel as Skinner mentioned, not usually stringer busters but good eating size Specs, occasional Red and flounder. Did our best on live shrimp and popping corks there growing up.

Horace Caldwell pier in Port Aransas is very good in October. Free lining live shrimp for trout under the lights at night is large fun. It's a very safe place also. Packery Channel jetties are good too. Plenty reds to be caught there, that time of year.

Did some research after a few of you suggested the Packery Channel. Looks really nice and pretty easy access at most the jettie.
Very easy My son has killed the big bull drum there many times in the last couple years. He had a 2 day stretch a couple months back where he caught and released 40+ and the smallest was around 36".
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Port O’Connor. Big pier, small clean beach, and great jetty fishing, but it takes a boat to get to them. Loved the jetties at POC. Pics, we need pics. Glad you asked. Isn't that from San Luis Pass?

October weather can be iffy. Usually the first big front blows through early in the month. A couple of us went Cedar Bayou to camp and fish first weekend of October, big front blew through and trapped us and 2 other boats out there. This was before cell phones.

Question. Will we need to purchase new rod/reel combos, lures etc? Or will our spincast and baitcast stuff work? I keep seeing swim baits that look similar to what I have for fresh water.
Not so sure they would work in the salt water. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks

Port Aransas fishing is great in October. I wouldn't get on a party boat. I did once and it was crazy. We was catching Snapper and the captain decided to leave to go to another hole. No fish were caught by anyone. Go out on a charter boat with no more then 4 people and have a great time. Just my 2 cents.

Me and mama just went to Mom & Pop's in Lamar right outside of Rockport. I had a blast on their lighted pier that is in the Compano bay with trout, flounder and redfish with the occasional stingray, gar or gaftops. The gar there will give you a fight and a half. Great cabins or rv slots. You can also take your Kayaks or Waders and wade out and do pretty good. Ready to go back again already. Next time give me a holler. Would be cool to meet you. For sure skinnerback! I had so much fun down there I started looking at real-estate down there. The whole vibe down there is just really cool.

Are you referencing Pop's Tavern at Lamar? We had a place at the corner of Main and Heron Way. Produced lots of quality stringers in St Charles Bay laughing as so many put in at Goose island and ventured farther away. Never should never have sold, but not the only stupid thing I have done. The double lot combined with coastal rains and a lawn mower not good enough for use at home definitely contributed.
We would try to get into town early enuff, creep on the guides @ Pop's as they talked about their day and try to act is if you weren't listening. Btw, speak with them politely and they typically will provide some great pointers if not exact locations. We didn't need them after awhile. Of course, they also typically still caught more than we did.

I will be down in Cancun area in October, the want 850 daily rental for boat, Captian and deckhands. Yeah we paid 800 for a half day from CC for 3 of us. The guy targeted trout which we did get in about 2 hrs. Once we had out limit he took us back in and we were done. Its like that on the Snapper party boats as well. Once the Captain see everyone has their 2 fish its over. I wish we could stay out longer and target other fish. I'm cheap I guess and want to fish more? That's why I want to just explore and not be on a time limit and really see how this goes.
