The Brazos is running at good rate right now. Either up river at Rochelle's or at Glen Rose Headed there this weekend I have done both of these, but it was in my jams and Spuds McKenzie t-shirt, so I guess my opinion is out. But we were pretty much the only ones on the river.

https://bergheimcampground.com/This is on the Upper Guad above Canyon Lake. Nowhere near as crowded as below the lake. Couple of small rapids unless the river gets up, then it gets pretty sporting. Lots of other stuff around to see and do.
Silver spurs and gold tequila
keep me hanging on.
Pretty girls and old cantinas
give me shelter from the storm.

Opposite direction but closer up your way, the broken bow River is a heck of a good time. We did it in kayaks but plenty of slow areas to hang out and refuel.
