I like the 17, but I shoot the 223 guns because of ammo prices.

I hear you. But I'm a hand loader so it all works out the same. But that said, Ive killed more pigs with the .223 than everything else put together.

For hogs the 17 hmr is my favorite

Savage A17

Head shots under 75 yards are good to go

I forgot the other added benefit

I can usually get one head shot and w 0 recoil get another 3-4 body shots on the runners

Win/Win thereā€¦

Small pigs the HMR or the WSM in the head or neck up to 100 yards = dead pigs.

Bigger pigs brain only up to 100 yrs.

I've never stretched it out past 100 with the .17 rimfires. They sure are fun to shoot. Fun on yotes & turkey too.

I use the 17 WSM on a lot, pigs, turtles, crows and anything else I can. That is a wicked little round but, I have run that pill around a pigs head when he was in a trap. Had to shoot a couple shots to get him down. As stated previous, has to be perfectly in the ear.

All about that brain. I watched a buddy of mine shoot a boar in the head 5 times with his 40 cal pistol and didn't kill him. I finally made him stop, and then put a 22 hp in his computer. I have killed a whole lotta pigs in traps with one 22 LR HP from a pistol. That's all I use to shoot pigs in traps.
