Just to add a little bit on to this since I haven't noticed it mentioned here - the vaccine is designed specifically for rattlesnake venom - with the exception of mojaves - which it offers zero protection. It offers limited protection from copperhead venom and NO protection from water moccasin venom.

Pretty sure the vaccine requires a yearly booster to remain fully effective as well.

Thank you!

Anyone know the name of the vaccine i should ask for? Or do i just ask for “snake bite vaccine” and the will know?

One final question...odds of dog dying with or without vaccine? (From worst type of snake bite) I know its a guess in most cases and depends on many factors. (Type of snake, young or old. Type of dog...young or old)

Rattle snakes obviously aren't a problem where we are at in East Texas - my wife's clinic sees probably 5-6 snake bites per day this time of year - with most of those being copper heads and the others being water moccasins. I'd have to ask her, but very rarely do they lose a dog - just like the majority of people aren't going to die from those types of snake bites either. May hurt like hell, may be an ugly healing wound, but most times they get through it just fine with pain meds and antibiotics. Rattlesnake the prognosis with no vaccine is much different and obviously worse....and antivenom is very expensive.
