Uh yeah, the book is based on real people and events. It is written by a Pulitzer prize winner who is from a Texas ranching family. It's a little more than a "chick flick."

Charles Goodnight and Oliver Loving.

Texas Monthly magazine called "Lonesome Dove" the anthem of Texas

Ranch Dawg you owe us a mile run and 200 push-ups for that comment.

One of the best.

More classic scenes and quotes than any other.

If I was a character cast in a western it’s Gus, that’s for sure. A lazy philosopher who likes women food and story telling.

About the same as the Chicken Ranch has to do with chicken.

This is on my rotation of movies I fall asleep to on the couch at the ranch and deer camp. That water moccasin scene kept me out of the river in our backyard for a VERY long time as a kid.

Baby #3 (our final) is due in two weeks and his middle name is McCrae - a nod to my favorite literary character of all time.

The novel was a bestseller and won the 1986 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. In 1989 it was adapted for the television movie.

I’ve actually never seen the whole movie despite owning a copy of it. Was young the first several times I watched it and just never could make it through it. Seemed like there were some long slow spots but to be honest it’s been so long ago I don’t remember.

Barry Corbin has a brother that lives here in Odessa, His Front yard was decorated with Props from the movie at one time. People started stealing them so they had to put them in storage.

I also have friend that used to shoe Tommy Lee Jones polo ponies in Midland , Tommy gave him a half whiskey barrel that came from the blacksmith shop/scene off the set .

That pretty dang cool.

I just can’t believe that anyone would steal anything in Odessa. I’m shocked.

The series maintains permanent residence on my dvr. And the family knows they'll all be living on the street in cardboard boxes if anyone deletes it.

Tolerance is the virtue of a man without conviction.

The end of the world began the day it was created, and life is a sexually transmitted terminal disease.
