Welcome to The Forum. Lots of really great folks on here withh really great advice.
As for my first deer rifle, no surprises for any one on here. 670 Winchester in 300 Win.Mag. topped with a K6 Weaver scope. Bought it with money from my first job out of High School. Killed my first deer, an 8 point buck on the Wed. before Thanksgiving in 1970. I wish I still had that gun.

my first deer rifle was a .300 savage model 99. I believe I had a Tasco 3X9 on it. I was in San Angelo hunting on a peanut field when a doe walked out from the other side. I waited until she got about 75 yards from me when I let-r-rip. As I approached it, I saw that it was actually a spike buck.
I now hunt with a H&R Handy rifle in .25-06. I have a Leuopold vx-1 on it. When I came back from Iraq, me and my wife where on a tight budget with her finishing up her school (to be a teacher) and I heard that these were good rifles for not much cash. I still enjoy shooting it and will probably have it fit for some more calibers.

marlin 30-30 seems to be a popular first gun. Mine was a marlin 30-30 lever action. Then went to a Model 700 30-06 bolt action still use it.

MY FIRST WAS A REM 700 BDL 30/06 AND A LEOPOULD 3X9 SCOPE... I WAS 11YO AND BOUGHT IT MYSELF. THE GUN DIDN'T COME WITH A KICK PAD AND THE FIRST TIME OUT AT THE RANGE I RAN TWO BOXES OF SHELLS THROUGH IT. THE NEXT DAY I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA HAVE TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL! AFTER THAT DAY I COULD NEVER HIT ANYTHING WITH THAT GUN I FLINCHED SO BAD IT'S A WONDER I DIDN'T SHOOT SOMEONE STANDING NEXT TO ME.

My Dad gave me a Mohawk 600 in .243 when I was 10 (28 Years ago), I have killed a few deer with it and passed it on to my oldest son last year who killed a doe the last youth weekend with it.
