Well done! One shot and DRT. Love the 300 Ham'r. It truly is my go to rifle for entertaining piggies!

I just pulled the trigger on a 16” HAM’r Protector. I am excited for it to arrive. What is a good scope to put on this rifle? Not necessarily looking for a brand recommendation but rather what power / diameter and if a certain style is better suited to the AR platform. Shots will be on hogs from 75-200 yards. My deer rifles are in long range calibers and have 20-25x scopes.

Is this a fairly close trajectory chart for the 130 grain hot cor factory load? I couldn’t find a specific chart for it and am going to be sighting in a couple guns later this week. Yep a couple. I couldn’t make up my mind so I bought an 8” and a 16” HAM’R.

I’m thinking 2” high at 100 yards should be pretty good for any distance out to 200? I know this will be different with the two barrel lengths and I am mainly concerned with the 16. The 8 is going to be wearing an Aimpoint T2 and used more for home defense and a truck gun and possibly shooting at hogs on the run that I jump up while dinking around at the ranch.

The 130 will drop slightly more that the 125 TNT. 2" high at 100 could work fine as well as 1" depending on your preference.

Sight in distance for the purpose you are thinking is somewhat subjective and falls back on whatever works best for you and that you are comfortable with. I would definitely put it on paper to verify drop numbers whatever you end up deciding.

That chart is as good a place as any to start. YMMV, so you need to check it out with your guns and your ammo to verify.

I keep my day scope rifles zeroed at 150yds which is right at 1" high at 100yds and my thermal rifle zeroed at 100yds, this works well for me anyway

Mr. Rat, choosing a scope is a personal choice and everyone will have a different opinion. It also gives me a chance to voice mine. grin
My scope of choice is a Leupold VX-R 1.5-4X. The 30 mm tube will allow plenty of light to get in and the 4X magnification is more than enough for 200 yard shots. One of my favorite games is using this scope to pop a 12"x12" plate at my 500 yard line at my range. Another nice feature is if you push the button on the side you have an instant red dot for close defensive use. I have more "deer rifles" than I need but one of the major advantages of an AR chambered in 300 HAM'R is its pure versatility. These rifles will handle deer, hogs, and any type of "varmint" you will come across.

frown Never mind! After talking about the VX-R I thought about it and decided to buy another one! BUT, they have been discontinued and I can't even find a used one for a halfway decent price! frown

I put a Trijicon 2.5-10x56 on my HAMR AR setup. My reasons for this scope are: lots of light gathering ability, good glass, illuminated reticle. The most important reason is it is what I had and I thought it would be a good fit. It works for me.

My GO TO hunting scope is the Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40 crosshair/green dot, it will handle anything I need to do from 15-300yds

Thanks fellas. I think I will sight it in at 1" high @ 100. My eyesight isn't near as good as it once was. I have a 1x6 high end scope on one of my rifles and I don't find the 6X good enough at 100 yards. Hunting applications it is fine but sighting it in I have a hard time really seeing the bullseye. I will give the Trijicon 3-9X40 a look.

I always go for a combat sight in. This is one that will give you the least standard deviation between 0 and 300 yards. Usually that spot is right around a 50 yard zero, high at 100 yards and back on at 200. The lower BC HAM'r rounds drop a bit faster. That is why I prefer the 135 HAM'R Bonded.

I stuck a Vortex RZR Gen II on my 18" Wilson Combat 6.5 Bleedmoor for a little testing, I plan to do this with my 300 HAM'R at different ranges. Targets at 565 yards, plates are 10", 8", 6" and 4".

Received my 16” HAM’r today. Mounted a 4-16x42 ATACR on it. The fit and finish of the rifle is amazing. It shoots good too. My 8” arrives tomorrow.

Hello All,

I’m new to the forum and fairly new to the AR realm. Been mostly a 1911 guy for years until I acquired some land a couple of years ago and got me to thinking of my new longer distances. To boost my home defense and 1911 platform I decided on the 300BLK for a night stand 0-50yd DRT zombie defense pistol(unaware of the HAM’R at that time). I’ve got the 300BLK with an 8.5” barrel loaded with the Underwood 115gr Controlled Chaos. Last week I became aware of the WC 300 HAM’R and after some real fast research on the WC site, and although a backorder item, I ordered an 11.3 barrel with 1/13 twist which as of last week was the only twist offered in that length. Should be fine as I imagine I’ll be using the 130-150gr rounds mostly if not entirely. Then in my continued research I stumbled across the THF and this thread.
This has been a fantastic education and I’m absorbing as much as I can. Thank you to all contributors.

I have a question. With my 300BLK and that 115gr controlled chaos round through the 8.5” barrel with the intended purpose of 0-50yd DRT terminal performance, would there be any improvement to DRT terminal effectiveness if I were to swap the barrel to an 8” HAM’R and if so what rounds would be best suited for that purpose? Knowing that I’ve got the 11.3” HAM’R coming for a separate build to fill the 50-200yd gap.

Specs on the 115gr Controlled Chaos are:
• Muzzle Energy (ft. lbs) : 1,422
• Muzzle Velocity (fps) : 2,360
And I don’t remember where I found this number or if it is accurate, but I have a note that the BC is .284 on that round.
I don’t have the access to test what my actual MV is on my 8.5” barrel, I imagine my actual numbers are lower proportionally from whatever length barrel was used for these numbers.
Thanks.

Thanks.

I found published data online of a 300BO 110g Barnes bullet with MV of 2051 and 1027 ft-lbs. The HAM'R 135gr Hornady FTX does 2147 fps/1382 ft-lbs out of an 8-inch barrel and I believe the 135 HAM'R Bonded is even faster. The FTX has a lower expansion velocity according to Bill and could still reliably expand at 250 yards out of an 8-inch barrel... still having twice the energy of a 147gr 9mm.

Hi djones. haha. It's a roll of the dice reference and customizing Harleys thing I do.

Thanks SwatDude. I finally found some numbers on that Lehigh CC round through an 8" blk. This is what I found on it.
115G Lehigh Control Chaos loaded by Underwood: --Average 2071Fps/.284BC/1095 ft.lbs from an 8" barrel.
It isn't as good as the HAM'R does with the numbers Bill has posted for an 8".

I guess for now it'll be good until I get my new 11.3" HAM'R complete and then I can regroup. Makes me wonder if that bullet meets the specs needed for loading it in a 300 HAM'R case.

I didn't know Underwood loaded 300 HAM'R? If so that's good news.

The Lehigh 110gr CC we load was designed specifically for the 300 HAM'R and has a perfect ogive and crimp groove location, super accurate bullet
