I review FinCEN records almost daily as part of my job and I find the concept highly intrusive, especially about the withdrawing of funds. And you won't even know what their conclusion is. My money...my business.

Yes, we are just peons, doing a job for a fee. And we are, for the most part, replaceable. I’ve told this before, but I used to work closely with a Manager in accounting (we worked for a big oil company, the name you’d know). The guy’s name was Murphy. I spoke to him on Friday and we decided to meet and discuss issues on Monday. I showed up for the meeting, only to be told he had died on Sunday. By Monday afternoon there was a new guy at Murphy’s desk. I never heard Murphy’s name mentioned again.

I have other corporate America stories that would totally pi__ you off.

Anyway, to stay on topic, I suppose I’ll get the cashier’s check later this week. Let’s see how the local bank does with giving me my money.

I got 20 grand cash from mine a few months ago and got the same questions for them to comply with the Patriot Act. They will give you your money, but they don't have a choice about asking the questions.

Ever catch smurfs slicing salami?

FinCEN reporting and BSA is no different than the firearms red flags... just another example of the Bull$h!t in America the people that work for us subject us to.

This.

Same goes for Western Union transactions at Wal-Mart. They have figured out the scammer’s methodology and are trying to warn would be victims of said scams. It’s unfortunate, but in a world where it costs a scammer nothing to call you from the other side of the planet, these scams are rampant nowadays and they are good at what they do. A lot of innocent folks fall for their BS.

So if a teller or other person asks about a large transaction, just politely tell them thanks for looking out for your best interest, but you have a legitimate reason and it’s not a scammer sending you there.

I've had similar experiences with financial institutions.

My mother got scammed a few times in her last years. She was a trusting soul and didn't understand that folks who called her saying they had somehow gotten too much of her money and needed to know her bank info so they could return it were lying.

When I make a large, unusual financial transaction I expect the call. I actually appreciate that they're trying to help folks avoid being scammed. I don't take it personally. I have no doubt that many people have benefited from these protections.
