Wanted to go fishing today but it was way too windy to get the boat out for me. Decided to go ahead and scalp and bag the lawn and get ready for Preemergent. It was very thick considered to previous years after using T-Nex all of last summer. I started out @ .75" last spring, and it was 1.5" at the end of summer. It was so thick in some spots that my Honda rotary mower left it kind of shaggy and I sharpened the blades every other mow to see if it helped. I`m sure a reel mower would have done a much better job but me no gotty uno. I ended up using my ZTR to scalp it as low as it would go and use the Honda rotary to bag the clippings and leave it looking good. I`ll bet a third of the clippings blew away as windy as it was. I`m going to go ahead and stock up some ammonium sulphate just in case it is affected by the tariffs. It won`t be long before its time to "throw`er down"!!...... It has started. ![[Linked Image]](https://media.tenor.com/rnoQy4_XFX8AAAAM/lcn-lawn.gif)

If winds are nice I might bump my Pre by a week to this Saturday morning. I can spray and run irrigation right after and check how all the zones look without being cold and miserable. Probably won't pan out for me. Never does lol

If you don't have irrigation it wouldn't be a bad idea to bump your pre emergent application to this weekend for NTX folks. Nice day on Saturday to get and do it and increased rain chances early next week.

Is it too early to apply Preen in the flowerbeds? No. Do it same day. Preen is Trifluralin. You don't want this on your turf. Fine for flowerbeds. But you want to water it in right after you apply it. It's not very sunlight stable. Prodiamine is like 14 days sunlight stable. I need to reread the label on it but iirc Preen is short lived and needs to be reapplied every 3 months for best results during the growing season. I'd get it out and water it in then apply your Prodiamine or whichever pre you're using and some overspreading of it in the beds is fine. Just keep in mind Prodiamine needs about 1/2" of rain or irrigation within 14 days. I probably wouldn't go more than 10 days

1 gallon water + 1/3 ounce 41% gly didn't touch the weeds much but I am going to mow them to the ground Saturday and apply my Stonewall Sunday.
Pass the gravy.

I gave you the low rate and gly is pretty slow to work to see good results specially in these cooler temps. Go ahead and mow it as planned. Since it's a bare ground area you can hit it again at a higher rate later.

Scalped my Bermuda yard today. What a beating, but it looks good. I have both Stonewall and corn gluten meal pre emergents in the garage. Which one should I use tomorrow? .

Since it's a bare ground area you can hit it again at a higher rate later. Spot on. Took a week but the treated areas look sick now. Seems long enough to not spread it by mowing. I think I hit it hard with the mower while it's sick, most of it will die. Should have noticed the low dose and expected safe and delayed results. BTW, I scalped and bagged twice in the fall but it's time again (today) before I put down the Stonewall (tomorrow).
Pass the gravy.

To be upfront going into spring. I am not a licensed professional applicator. Just a lawn nerd. I prefer to backpack spray just about everything but understand that is not feasible to most so granular is the way to go. I took over a couple neighbor's lawns at no charge as they were asking for help. One had tru green and the other had nothing. Both were terrible. Both Bermuda. May 2022 is the oldest one. Used some high end herbicides on one and 41% glyphosate on the other. Both were different situations as one was full of King Ranch Blue Stem and the other Dallis. The high end herbicides did a great job but needed a follow up app of 41% gly the following spring. To tie Preemergent back to this I/they have only used granular Prodiamine Feb/Aug and their lawns are very clean this year. Couple broadleaf weeds here and there but nothing noticeable and those are easy to kill. It's taken 2 years of not missing a pre app to really show but when it does it shows.

^^^ This makes me want to post pics of my dormant yard as I only got back into taking GOOD care of it a year ago and the results are obvious. I used to do a pretty good job but when the kids were in little league, etc. I let it go working two jobs. Now that the older two are out of the house and the other two are in high school, I have time for my yard and golf. Got a new pole saw attachment and extension for my Echo machine and cut out two truck bed loads of branches I couldn't reach before and hauled them off last Sunday. I have some junky mulberry and china berry trees in neighboring (rental) yards that are a nuisance. I lopped them without regard to their health (blocking too much sun from parts of my St Augustine back yard grass) and trimmed up the live oak out front to raise its canopy, steering its growth towards a light spot in its shape, and provide more sun to the grass-less portion around the mail box. Still need to trim my crepe myrtles (I do not hack them like some people) and my rose of Sharon. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/234SScsL/IMG-0304.jpg)
Pass the gravy.

Never thought Gallery would be so hard to find but I found a bottle for $185 today so now I can spray tomorrow. I tossed a brand new bottle in the thrash by accident last week so I guess I deserved it..

Cut another truck bed load of limbs off my neighbor's junky trees blocking sun to my back yard. WARNING: Pole saws are addictive.

Off season is almost over. How is everyone's yard looking for spring? I have not taken care of mine over a season and off season like this in a long time and I am very pleased with what I see. I am usually overrun with chickweed and henbit that both die off quickly when the St Augustine comes in and the weather gets warm. The Bermudagrass usually has 40% infestation of crabgrass by now but unlike my neighbor, I do not have a green lawn right now thanks to some hard work and good advice here.
Pass the gravy.

Zero weeds. I was hoping to scalp this weekend but tonight's expected rain will put a damper on that. With spring forward I'll probably knock it out a couple days after work next week. I typically start fertilizer first weekend of April. We'll see how the next few weeks go. Might bump it up to March 29th.

I have been cutting mine very short every couple of weeks most winter. I already got my cheap Walmart 13-13-13 ready for April Fools Day (my wife's birthday LOL). Better get her a gift too.

;I'm curious about the timing of the fertilizer. I've always waited until there is somewhat of a green up to apply. That's usually around the 1st of May here in North Texas. I always heard that if the grass is dormant then you are wasting much of the fertilizer. I have very sandy soil and chemicals tend to leach through pretty quick. Any benefit is usually gone within a couple of weeks. It was the greenskeeper at my old club that told me about how and when he fertilizes. Sounds reasonable anyway.

I typically start the first weekend of April. I’ve got a lot of green starting to pop. Once I scalp it next week I’ll be close to 100% green come April

I too start in April but lay down granular every four weeks from there on generally.
