Went through my stockpile and found 1500 rds of ACP. Problem is the only one in the family belongs to my BIL so I need one of my own. What non-1911 semi-auto would you recommend?

Glock 21 or 41 if you have medium sized or larger hands

Sounds like an excuse to build a .45 pcc. With a can on there they are stupid quiet and fun.

I have a Glock 41 and an M&P. I really like the Glock 41.

Since you specify a non-1911, my 2 favorites that I personally own are a Springfield Armory XD .45 Tactical - this is the cheaper alternative. It's striker fired, 13 round mags so 13+1 of .45ACP goodness. This pistol runs around $600 or so depending on features you want. The creme de la creme though is my FNX .45 Tactical - it's the bees knees and is 15+1 capacity. It's a handful, but one hell of a deadly handfull - this gun has every feature known to man and a price tag to match - usually around twice the price of the XD .45 Tactical. Is it twice the gun? Oh hell yes! If this pistol is ever offered for sell, I'm most likely dead. As others mentioned you cannot go wrong with a Glock 21/41 either - but personally I like the two above pistols better. Earl

full size 45 I would like an FN fnx or the classic HK USP 45
compact would be an hk45c

1911 is always the first choice for .45 AUTO but if for some reason that doesn't appeal to you then get one of these 3rd generation S&W's.
Pass the gravy.

On the budget side but still a great gun is the Ruger SR 45. My SR9 has had thousands of rounds through it is still reliable and accurate. I’ve cleaned it twice, it just runs. About $420 plus tax these days.

When it comes to 45s, especially non-1911s, I think the fnx tactical 45 is one of the best out there.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

I have 5 pistols in 45 ACP. I would go with my Sig P220 if not one of the 1911's.

I like xdms and would go that route. If you don't like xdms, then i would go glock. If you don't want plastic i would look at cz, i think it is a model 97, but not sure.
These are all assuming that you are not wanting a compact.
Although I would really probably go 1911/2011 over any of the rest. Which makes me have to ask, why no 1911?

I have some access to it so I sort of have one already. Main reason for a non-1911 is capacity. I’d like 12-15 rds minimum. The PCC would be fun but I think I’d rather have 9mm for the cost or 10mm for the power. I will definitely start by looking at the FNs and Sigs mentioned above.

The HK .45 Tactical would be among my favorites, but a handgun as large as an HK Tactical should have more than a 12 round mag!

an Italian stainless Tangfolio
had a glock 21, didn't like it, sold it
friend traded a Tangfolio .45
I like the trigger and feel... almost like my other 1911
If you like this you can have it for $500

It certainly should! Seeing as how I usually only have 8+1 in my Dan Wesson 1911..of course though if the zombie appocolyse happens I'm picking up the FNX Tactical though The HK .45 Tactical would be among my favorites, but a handgun as large as an HK Tactical should have more than a 12 round mag! How dare you speak bad of my baby! I’m gonna cross my fingers that 13 rounds of that Gold Dot +P will handle it.

If you like the 1911 platform there have been and still are Double Stack 45 acp. A number of manufacturers offer them. I've been toting this one around for 26 years. 13+1 Capacity

I'll put another comment up for the FNX Tac...mine shoots great and have a RMR on top of it.
If you are more flush with cash, I have been considering letting my LWRC SMG 45 go. Have 6 25 round mags that go with it.

My Colt 1911 is my favorite pistol, period. Buying a non-1911 45 just makes very little sense to me, as someone who has owned a number of both 1911 and non-1911 45 pistols.
That being said, I do own a cool old Colt 1917 from WWI that's chambered in 45 acp. So that's my answer for a non-1911.

I have a CZ 97 BD that is accurate and easy to clean. If you can find one right now I am guessing it would be expensive. Magazine holds 10 rounds.
It's not what you say, or think, that counts. It is what you DO!
