I guess the short answer is no.
I don't think we really "need" camo but I like to wear it daily, to me it's like wearing your "colors" others hunters will strike up a conversation.
I wear it every time at the lease but I guess I only need it if I'm out walking and see game.
If I didn't have camo I'd still wear greens, browns, and tans which is still basically camo where I hunt.

Serious answer....
the Rods and Cones in a deer's eyes cannot make out your image unless they are very close to you...with that they CAN see some color...BLUE especially...so jeans are a mistake...unless in a BOX lind 10 feet in the air. The Camo does nothing but breaks up your outline....and causes you to blend in with what's around you....deer key on movement...so if you know they can't smell you and you are eye to eye across a clearing or a pasture then freeze and as long as he does not wind you, you'll be okay...they will try and stare you down to see movement but usually go back to doing what the do. Do not get me wrong....the are very sharp...but camo will give you an edge.

It is not necessary in the blind . I wear it because I usually try to make a stalk to and from my stand . I also like to have it on so if I get tired of sitting I can do walk and sit and watch type hunting .

Growing up everyone I knew never wore camo, and it wasn't as available as it is today unless you had some old army fatiqes which a lot of people wore.
The old battle uniforms were just olive drab, so a brown plaid shirt, brown T shirt, or olive pants, or plain faded jeans and straw hat was standard attire for doves or deer.
Many a deer and other game was taken years before people had to look cool in their full camo.
Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I shot a deer with my bow in a tripod wearing a UT hoody, my trusty Mathews ball cap and jeans... Deer was about 18 yards away... I didn't even have anything covering my face.
Camo is not necessary, but my camo parka is the warmest jacket I have ever worn... Even wore it skiing in Colorado.

I can't speak for te deer, but I'm color blind pretty bad. I can see blue, black, white, and grey, and the rest are just aboout the same. That being said, If you have something behind you to break up your outline, I'll have a hard tme seeing you. If you have camo, or if you are dressed up like santa! But what I do see is outlines, that is I seem to see wildlife way before others can, or movement seems to really catch my eye. I think camo works, but being still or having something break your outline is just as important. For me I wear a carhart jacket, and carhart jeans, but I'm in the brush country in a blind. This helps me when I go through the brush because everything seems to want to jump out and stick you if it can, and for me it's warmer. If I'm going to sit in the brush and unt out of my blind, I will wear "leafy-wear" type camo I can slip over my clothes. I've had a few of my friends try different camo out around me to see what works best. For my sight the "leafy-wear" works best. But if they are hid well they also could be derssed up like a waiter @ red lobster.
I feed Indian Corn, the deer really seem to like it and stay at the feeder longer......and longer....!

depends on what ur hunting 100%, deer. no u dont need it. ive snuck up, and very very close to deer wearing a plain t shirt. and jeans. but cammo does seem to help. especially when u get something over ur face. now if ur hunting yotes. ya u need it, they will see ur arse. or if u are hunting crows, if u dont have cammo, u might as well sit at home. and i assume its the same way for ducks. now for hogs, u could go out in a neon suit with 3 flags tied onto u wavin in the wind and sneak up on em!
Somthin over your face and hands especially for the yotes and cats

I've wondered about this also.. I know up in Canada they make you wear the Floresent Orange so you can be seen by other hunters.. I've often thought if the hunters can see you easy, then why not the deer ! .. but it seems they still kill a lot of deer there so I'm not sure ...

I'll wear it varmit hunting, sometimes deer hunting, simply because all the warm clothes I have look like bushes. I think it's absolutely unnecessary. The biggest deer I ever killed I was in grey sweat pants, a t-shirt, and on crutches with a big cast on my leg sitting under a bush on the side of a road...

If you are deer hunting in a blind, not really. If you are hunting anything with good eyesight, turkey, ducks, dove... you do. I wear it for deer hunting because it is the clothes I can wear and not worry if I get blood or anything else on.

Ever see the movie "Shooter"?
There is a quote in there that I have always kind of gone by;

I used to wear nothing but scent blocker for 4 years...from head to toe....At first it was ok...but as time went on for some reason deer kept busting me. I tried to figure out using every type of hunting logic I could muster up but could not figure out anything. Each year my numbers of seeing deer became extremely low and last year I saw only a handful of does...no bucks and nothing at all close enough for my 22 Hornet. I was frustrated to tears. I finally think I figured out my problem. At the end of the season I had hunted right up until I had to leave to rush home. I useally change and leave my hunting clothes in my plastic bag at camp, but just jumped into the truck in a rush...I got home and walked into the house to greet my wife and was swiftly rejected and told to get my clothes outside. She told me I smelled like I had forgot to wipe or something. It was then I began to realize just what the problem may be. You see...I had read many an article about putting your camo into plastic trash bags to keep odors out of your hunting clothes. I had done this for about 4 years. My wife asked me when the last time I "washed them" was...I replied "never". Well here in lied the problem. I tend to eat alot of food at camp that for lack of better terms, gives me the old fowl bowel growels...All this time those gassy circumstances were getting locked up in the scentblocker camo and coupled with not having washed them....ever...and placing them in plastic bags (to ferment for the last 4 years) my odor was getting to my blind long before I was...I never thought anything about my smell...I didnt think I stunk...Just thought it was deer camp...So now I'm looking forward to getting back out there again this year...I'm going to have to buy new hunting clothes this year...My wife burned all my other stuff....I'm looking at MT050 Whitail Extreme which promotes..."Highly Breathable" material. It's "total mobily technology" should give me just what I need after chawmpin down on 5-6 Bean n Cheese breakfast tacos chased by a cold glass of chocolate milk...
Think you can/Think you can't/Either way you're right

Only camo I wear is when it is cold, and that is just because they are insulated. My last one I took I was in my flannel pajamma pants and a Carhart jacket with my house shoes on.. But the house shoes were camo if that counts?

Yes it does, if your camos are warmer than your jeans and carhart and you don't want to be cold.
