Nice looking little rig. What glass is sitting on top? That is an El Cheapo NcStar Reflex Optics that has red, green and blue dots to select from. I've avoided NcStar like the plague but when I talked to a couple of guys at the San Antonio gun show, they said they tried these dots out and have really worked well in easy recoiling firearms. It also came with a cantilever mount, so I just popped in on the little shotgun and off to the shooting fields. I've probably put 150 rounds through the shotgun and the dot has not lost zero. Model # is DRGB135

(Yet most people want to use the latest big magnum to kill deer also.) lol. If you have an accurate 22 LR, 22's are great head shot punchers for Turkeys.

My first firearm was/is a .410 single shot that was on sale at K-Mart for $20 back in 1972. This 12 year old brought home many squirrel and rabbit for the dinner table. I can never forget the sense of pride I had the first time I got to help put dinner on the table. This thread prompted me to go get it down off the gun rack and look it over. Needs a bit of lube but otherwise good to go.

I also had to learn to actually call ducks and geese that year… My dad's dad just gave him his first shotgun that he ever hunted with, it's a single shot H&R .410. Right after they bought it he took my dad and the gun over to somebody to have the stock cut down to where it would fit my dad. It still had the cut down stock on it when he received it. We sourced an unmodified stock for it to put back to original and a few boxes of shells so we could go shoot it, but kept the cut down stock for the sentimental value. I don't think he hunted turkeys with it, but I know that's what he got his start on.

Just ordered this tonight. Now need a red dot. NC Star Reflex Optic, Model # DRGB135 is what I've been using for over a year for turkey, coon, skunks and foxes. Probably have put 150-175 rounds through the shottie with the el cheapo scope on it. Inexpensive but works beautifully!

All shotgun pellets travel at about 1200-1300 feet per second so if you happen to have a 410 that groups tightly- just as good as any other gauge 5 pellets from a .410 hit just as hard as 5 pellets from a 10 mag.. The big problem with a 410 is if the pellets spread apart- not enough in many instances to hit a vital area.

Love the pictures. Frame them for memories. Great job. He looks like king of the hill. Congratulation to both.
