It was stupid cold in my area. I was trying to keep my pipes from busting. I even cut three holes in sheetrock inside my house to keep from having a flood from pipes freezing, those were 2 hose bibs and one line for my fridge.

My house stays cold which is good in Texas, but bad for a record cold snap. I have 20 to 25 feet ceiling in most of my living spaces.

I was running 4 bathrooms full time with water, I even took my Washing machine line and cut it in half and let the hot/cold run down the drain for 6 days. I have 2 Gas Water heaters in the 2nd story attic that were burning on high. I even went to my double check for my irrigation system in the yard and put an electric blanket around it to keep it from freezing and busting.

I let my water run for 6 days in row, Keep 2 gas fireplaces on high for 6 days in a row, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. It's better than busted pipes and a flooded house.

My electric company is a co-op they filed for bankruptcy. Waiting to see what the bill looks like.

Buddy I work with in Houston had a $202k bill from Centerpoint.....it's true, I saw a copy of the bill.

I heard the Brazos River CO-OP filed for Chapter 11 rather than pass the huge hikes on to their customers. It will be interesting to see how that shakes out.

Yep - they supply to Tri-County EC. My bill went up 20% YOY based on kwh. We actually used very little power during the storm. Those smart meters aren't so smart.

If I remember right, you had it 80 degrees in your house...perhaps that could be the culprit

Incorrect. Most of my house has 20 to 25 feet ceilings and heat rises. I keep my downstair set on 72 during the winter storm and most of the heat rises, thus keeping upstairs warmer. Generally I will never even run the ac/heater upstairs since we don't go up there.

I got my upstairs thermostat set to 81

Downstairs set to 73

Got my gas fireplace going in my bedroom, and my fireplace in the living is burning natural gas

92 residents at Abilene Senior Living got a surprise letter in the mail this week. The owners of the affordable housing complex paid all of the resident's electric bills for the month of February.

"I'm shocked, astonished, happy, and stunned," said 80-year-old Betty Clark.

Rick Bailey also was happy to see his electric bill paid for considering how much electricity he had to use for those 2 weeks in February with temperatures dropping to record lows.
