The biggest difference is DD has ground peanuts in it, I hear. confused2 I usually fill the protein feeders last day of season and don't have to refill it until May. This year I changed to double down and it didn't last long. 600 pounds gone in less than 6 weeks,

Thanks for the report. Over hyped or not that's what I'm looking for to get my deer back on the protein

Jury is still out on the hyped up thoughts. It was pretty darn frozen, since i didn't have any other choices for them I'm sure the conditions added to the usage.

Titan, take a look at this one
My deer at my house are pretty dang particular and not big protein eaters but I put a bag of this one in and they went nuts over it.
This one also has peanuts in it I believe and is made by M-G feeds and handled at hundreds of feed stores around the state.

Yep..hard pass. Stomached paying $14.25 a bag but too rich now for my blood. I’ll save it all for you big timers.

Did not realize it had gotten that high. I buy feed at a place convenient for me to get it where I am wanting to go.

You can still get 16% for a $11.25 and 20% for $12.75 at the local coop here. They were out of the 20 so I went with the 16 but that was still $180 to fill my protein feeder. No doubt it is very expensive but so is a lease and now the fuel to go back and forth. I figured when I got on the lease I would have to budget between $1500-$2500 for protein and corn. Looks like with the rising prices I will end up on the high end of that.

I'm not trying to sell DD but this is my experience with it so far. We tried protein 16% and 20% from the local coop and it took the longest for deer to eat. Unless it was a dry year there was still protein in the feeder when deer season rolled around. We went to the record rack golden nugget berry scent and that one went a faster. The deer took to it much earlier in the post season and even used it during the green up to some degree. This year I put out DD for the first time and it was gone in about 6 weeks. The other brands were there for at least 3 months before we had to refill. I see new trails from places we hadn't seen deer come from before as well. It could be an expensive year if this continues.

This is what I've heard and what I want to happen. I want the few deer we have never leaving my protein feeder and get back to the days where they'd eat 1500 lbs per month

Having fed DD, Fehners and LE, we have come to realize they will get used to and consume anything as long as you don't change it around on them during the season in which you feed them. Do not buy this brand now, another in two weeks and then another. What you start the supplemental feeding season with, you should use it all during that time.

This is partly true depending on your area. In South Texas you can start them on something and they use it, Areas where they have a lot more natural options they may use it and then suddenly stop when what they like becomes available. The guys i talked to say they will use the DD year round once they find it. They have found the feeding station and have broken the record time for emptying it. New trails across my place have developed as well. Nothing I've used before has changed patterns so fast. This is an early observation with 11 years of feeding only 2 types of protein and now changing it after 6 years.
