Yes sir, Summer of 1986 I bought a used Ruger M77 .270 with a Redfield Widefield Variable scope at a gun show in Fort Worth. Seller wanted $325, I paid $275. That December, I harvested my first 8 pt. whitetail at a friends farm in Berclair, TX, Goliad county. Although there are nicks and scrapes on the gunstock, it's been a trusted companion throughout my hunting career!

I have a Remington 722 .244 with a fixed power Herter’s scope that I got when my FIL passed. After hunting with him on and off for 40 yrs, I know first hand that he never cleaned it or checked the zero during that time. He was never one to take care of his stuff. He never failed to hit was he was aiming at. He would say “Well it was hitting good last year.” I intend on cleaning it thoroughly and check the zero provided I can scratch up enough 6 mm ammo.

Sure seems to be a lot of Rugers as that one gun. Back when I bought mine I’m pretty sure it was because I couldn’t afford a Remy...no complaints though. My ol Ruger is like an old friend that’ll never die on me

My ol Ruger is like an old friend that’ll never die on me i originally had a LH Remmy 700 picked out but it was $75 more so the Ruger got the nod. IMO the Ruger M77 was one of the best rifles ever produced. I know alot of people think of them as a working mans rifle but i think they are on the same level as a Model 70 or a 700 BDL.

Ruger M77 .270 with a left handed bolt I bought used about 95. Replaced the VX II I had on there last year to get a little more magnification for my eyes. Hated to pull that scope off. Killed numerous deer with it. My son killed his first deer with it. Zero never moved.

Ruger M77 Bicentennial in .250 Savage with a Redfield Widefield 3-9 it was passed down to me from a gentleman who was like a 2nd Grandfather to me. Still shooting the old Winchester Silvertips he gave me with it as well. it's an absolute laser beam, my favorite thing is earholing pigs with it.

Dad's Marlin 336, bought in the late 50's with the microgroove barrel. I did take the Weaver off for a while. Then I put a used Bushnell 4X on it. (Was Bushnell ever made in the U.S.? I think it might be.) Darn thing is always spot on. I'm not quick, but I can get on hogs quicker with it than that dang new black rifle. It never had a sling, so you have to carry it. Every time it's in my hand, it's like Dad's walking beside me. On Saturday he will have been gone 35 years. (Yeah, that's a Savage 24V. Believe it or not...I sold it. Stupid, I know.) He wouldn't believe that I have, sometimes, over 100 turkeys coming off the roost and eating my corn at one spot. I know I've posted these pics before. Please forgive me my maudlin repetition.

I use a 7mm Mag that I have had since I was 13. Been carrying it for 44 years. Wears an old Leupold 3x9. I know I can pick that rifle up and easily make a 300 yard shot on a big game animal. It hasn't shot a factory round in over 35 years and the handload I use is deadly accurate. If I haven't dropped it or abused it (and I don't) then I know I can take it out of the safe and hunt. I have complete faith in that rifle. This year it put 4 whitetails in the freezer.

Great story about those savage combo guns....
One of My buddies from high school has a small farm south of Weimar. His parents were super cool and we would spend a lot of time there on weekends. Had my first Miller lite there, but that’s another story.
His dad Jim, god rest his soul, was one of the most colorful characters I’ve ever met in my life. Was a cook in the army during the Vietnam era then finished his career out at Union Pacific I believe. Drank Milwaukee’s best after his 1 cup of coffee until well after the sun went down. Loved 2wd powerstrokes, getting stuck in wet grass and John Deere tractors.
Anyway, we were at one of his farm shindigs and the beer was flowing quite well. At that time there was not a lot of deer in that part of Colorado county and they were regular squirrel hunters, so .22’s were a big deal. His dad went inside and brought out a savage combo gun that had a .22 LR on top and a .410 on bottom. We shot it at a beer can a few times and he was going on and on how accurate it was. I used to carry a .410 in my truck for snakes so I walked to my truck and tucked a .410 shell in my pocket and Walked back over. I told Jim I bet him $20 I could shoot a .22 casing off the fence post with his gun.
He laughed and said yeah right. I told him, I bet you $20 I can shoot that .22 casing off the fence post in the headlights with that gun
He handed it to me and said go for it ( prolly called me a name in good nature). I distracted them somehow and slid the .410, shell in, then said “ alright, here i go “, shouldered the gun, took careful aim and shot the .22 casing off along with the top of the fence post.
I’ve never seen a person laugh so hard in my life.
I miss that old guy, he passed away from Cancer about 5 years ago now.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I have a Remington VTR 308 with a Redfield scope. Zeros perfectly evey time. If it had a notch for every kill there would be no stock left.

My Remington 700 BDL 30-06 with a Leupold 3x9 shooting core-lokts is my favorite rifle. Had it about 40 years I think, it is always right on the money. But have to mention my sons 700 BDL 243 with a Tasco 3x9 scope deadly accurate all the time. That inexpensive Tasco has really held up well.

Marlin made Glenfield 30/30. Stock is best described at "firewood grade". Bluing was never glossy, more of a flat black. Leupold scope cost me more than the rifle. Scope is on every time we shoot it. Loaner gun for whoever hunts our land with us. Puts deer and hogs down regularly for whoever I loan it to(friends, nephews, grandkids, etc).
God is so good to me.

My remmy 700 in .308. Topped with a nightforce 2.5-10X in spurh mounts. 20" 5R barrel. If not being carried, it's In the truck, mule or tractor at least 180 days a year. It's definitely not babied but has yet to let me down since getting rid of the first set of scope and rings (rings failed me on a pig hunt!). Haven't used another rifle to hunt with since in prolly 6 or 7 years. Have never needed to re-site it since then as well.

Another Ruger M77. Mine is a .30-06. I bought it at a pawn shop in Houston in the early 90’s after my Remington 700BDL .270 was stolen out of my pickup at a gas station on my way back from deer hunting when I went inside to take a leak. That Ruger is my go to deer rifle. I bet I’ve killed 100 deer with that gun and probably even more hogs. Upgraded scopes twice. Doesn’t matter the scope. It drives tacks at 100 yards.
