This is Scruffy. He's only 4.5 in these pics from 2010. I bribed all my hunters with a discount that year and marked him off limits to get him one more year as "herd bull" with our muley does. And then we had the wildfires that scorched the panhandle and killed a huge percentage of the herd. Never saw him again. Either he died in the rut, or a wildfire or got poached. But I'd still make the same decision.

Still the biggest Texas Mule Deer I have seen on the hoof. Feel lucky to have seen him and lucky to have taken one of his buddies!

I joked around with Erathkid on if I should put these up or not, but he nudged me. These should probably go in here rather than the antler progress thread, but we are covering both topics. Some of you may remember my big boy from last year -- here he is in August of last year



We thought he was gone for good after not seeing him, but surprise surprise he came back around this past weekend. I'd say he is far surpassing his growth rate from last year based on being a month earlier.

My my my what a beauty!! More mass and I think I may of not waited.

Didn't see either last year.
