Don’t be surprised if you have a note in the box when your ammo is delivered that says you must return it if you didn’t purchase a gun within the last 30 days from their store. Also you’ll be responsible for return shipping costs !

Cabelas has had that for a while now, academy has been doing the same. Ammo that goes on the shelf is separate from behind the counter. Yesterday that had just about any ammo you could think of before lunch so assuming they just got a big shipment

Several stores hold back ammo and I can't blame them. You can't move forearms without ammo.
The stores here hold a qty of boxes for each rifle and sell over that amount, ensures a new buyer can get a few boxes for their new rifle.

This is absolutely true. Right before Christmas I bought 4 Tikka rifles (for grandkids) and a pistol for myself. The guys starts stacking up some boxes of ammo and I asked him what was that first? He said we can let you have this ammo since you are buying rifles.... I told him I had plenty and save it for the needy. Should have bought it but haven’t shot factory since 1978 so didn’t want to break my streak.

Arrived at the Cabelas store in North Ft Worth Current signage at the registers indicates folks can buy ammo with states limits , no gun purchase necessary Here is how they are doing things, all ammo available for purchase without buying a gun is found on these shelves Here is the NEW policy that was started on Monday for the ammo being held behind the gun counter

Last night at 545 or so I was in Ft Worth Cabelas when a manager walked out w a cart full of ammo
Right in front of me, I asked him about it and he said it wasn’t for sale unless you buy a gun
I said when did that start and he said yesterday
I asked if I buy a gun, how much ammo could I buy and he said just 1 box
Idk guys, swear that’s what happened
It was new to me🤷🏻♂️ Funny, I work at a big retailer. and we get bitched at constantly for NOT saving all or most ammo for gun-buying customers. I guess the moral of the story is that customers will never be happy

Might have covered the cost of one of those rifles!

I've gotten most of the way thru this thread. I call BS, MAJOR BS. My son is a shift lead supervisor at the Allen store. They will sell you 5 boxes of each caliber regardless of the quantity - so you could technically buy 5 bulk boxes of 5.56, 5 of 9mm and 5 of .45 and it is still like that RIGHT THIS SECOND. So, if there is such a policy at the Fort Worth store it is NOT corporate wide. Hell just this past weekend I got 9mm, 45, 7.62x39, and 5.56mm from the Allen store all at regular prices. It's ok with me though if everyone doesn't want to buy from there, more for me Earl

The problem, Earl, is that Cabelas management does a very poor job of communicating and proof reading of signs, ads, web site content, etc. is non existent.
According to the sign in the pic: ‘Limit of 1 container of each size: Reloading Powder’. So, if there were dozens of different powders with plenty of each, but they were all in 1 lb. containers, you would only be able to buy 1.
Due to this, not all Cabelas stores, or even departments, operate the same.

It's not like a lot of new firearms are being added to their existing stock every day. It just doesn't make business sense to hold back ammo that it might otherwise take weeks or even months to sell with a firearm. Sounds more like what a store manager puts in place just to pull the customer's chain. Besides, I can't remember buying a new rifle only because the store had ammo for it. I've also recently run across guys looking for ammo for a new rifle so evidently it's not something that's holding buyers back from pulling the trigger, pun intended. It would make as much sense as holding back firearms until the store as ammo for them.

I have no problem if they want to keep a box per inventoried weapon in stock-as some posted, they likely can't sell the gun if they don't have any ammo to go with it.

That I would agree with. Just don't color all stores one color because the way some manager implements them at one. Each store has different managers and they have lattitude to manage differently. For instance, there are 3 managers of the gun library in Allen. Two of them price guns pretty fairly, one does not. I always hate it when good stuff comes in and the one that puts high prices is the one working The problem, Earl, is that Cabelas management does a very poor job of communicating and proof reading of signs, ads, web site content, etc. is non existent.

that's not true Z71. I called BS on those saying it's that way at all Cabelas, it is NOT. Also, check back wit the Fort Worth store occasionally as I've found that the policies change frequently. In Allen until recently they had a 3 box limit and 1 bulk box per caliber - but about 2 weeks or so ago they went to 5 boxes of any quantity per caliber. If I frequented the Fort Worth store, I would call corporate. Earl I've gotten most of the way thru this thread. I call BS, MAJOR BS. My son is a shift lead supervisor at the Allen store. The gun library, that’s another story... In the last 18 months or so I’ve called 2 different stores about different rifles 1 store was in Idaho, I think the other was way up north but don’t recall..Minnesota?? Anyway, the guy in Idaho told me the gun sold almost 2 years prior and hadn’t been taken offline The second store up north told me looks like it’s sold already and we don’t sell guns over the phone. I literally read off their website to him that they do sell guns over the phone. You pay and have it shipped to a local store for background. The library is a real S show
