If you are really serious about getting out in the heat and walking a lot, away from the truck, you need to worry about more than just packing your water, Take a look at the Badlands Monster Fanny Pack, with yoke carrying straps, primo waist belt, two side pockets which I put 20 oz. water bottles in (with Squincher), and about 1000-1100cc capacity in two center compartments. One small outer one holds my lightweight rain jacket (rolled up, and the main compartment holds lots of odds and ends. I have been using mine for years, and wouldn't go on a summer trip without it. Your back is open and doesn't sweat as bad, still lets you carry a rifle on your shoulder, and binos as well. Doesn't stick up above your shoulders and head, to tangle in brush. Because of proper weight distribution, it stays up on your hips, and you're good for about 40#.
