Just thought I’d post this and see what y’all think about this. Between 2004 and 2019. Feral hog populations are experientially growing despite federal, state and private flight programs, trapping & hunting. Only a matter of time till they are in every state. They move further north every year. What’s yalls thoughts?? 2004 2019

agree with the posters above, that map doesn't really make much of a case for the expansion.

agree with the posters above, that map doesn't really make much of a case for the expansion. Right. I think the reason it’s slowed down north and west is lack of water. Not sure though

I would like to know about the counties in the UP of MI that show to have them in 2019. If they are there they WO t last long due to the cold, and major predators like wolves, cougars, and bears. The wolves have put a big dent in the deer and moose numbers. I’ll have to as my family about it next time we talk.

I know for a fact their in northern Kansas right now, the main reason the northern states can control them better is due to the wide open terrain and being able to see/kill them so much easier. Every state showing them on that map has thick cover for them to shelter in. I think every state will eventually have them to a degree if they don’t already.

Wont make it to Wyoming too Damm cold. I agree with that. I think the farthest north they will go is Nebraska . Maybe south dakota They don't seem to have much trouble in Germany and Russia, there's probably not a more adaptable critter on this earth. Just my opinion but I believe much of this is a man made problem. Back in the late 70's and early 80's allot of ranches found out people would pay good many to hunt hogs and this money filled the void between deer season. We had allot of ranches importing hogs for just that reason while others encouraged their expansion. As a kid (50's-60's) there were no hogs within several hundred miles of this county, had go to east Texas to find the Piney Wood Rooters or along the lower parts of the Rio Grande to find them. About 30 to 35 miles north of town in Borden County one of the ranchers imported some hogs in the late 60's and they got into the headwaters and feeders that go into the Brazos and they started moving southeast following the water and expanded out in other directions. Seen and shot my first hog back in the early 80's nth of Albany on the Nail Ranch. With hog hunting getting more and more popular more and more ranches wanted to get in the game, we see the same thing today with new exotic ranches popping up yearly. Here in Howard county we had very few deer in the 60's and now we're covered with them, we also have a large population of hog's. We even have a substantial amount of exotic's running lose now as y'all have seen from some of the pic's I've posted in the past. We now have Hog's, Axis deer, Fallow Deer, Black Buck and Aoudad on the big ranch. With 3 large exotic ranches within 5 miles of the fence there's no telling what might show up next.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Too cold? I thought pigs survived in these temps where they came from originally. A google search tells me pigs live in Siberia.
My favorite part of the map is how the pigs don't cross the Nevada state line from CA, respect I guess. I'm going to call a meeting with pigs of Freestone county. Explain politics and law as best I can. If we all agree, I'll cover the costs to move them to CA where they won't be shot at. Good for you NV.

I've not seen feral hogs hindered by cold as much as lack of water. New Mexico is a good example of that. In the mountains of NM, up close to Cloudcroft, Mayhill, Weed area, the elevation is pretty high... 6500ft to 9000ft elev. Gets pretty cold there. But the hogs are thriving and multiplying. They came in from the east... from the Texas direction. But the invasion seems to be halted headed west out of the mountains once you get down to the desert floor, and much less water.

I can remember when the ONLY places you would find 'feral' hogs in Texas was in the Pineywoods, along the Rio Grande (mostly in the canebrakes) and one small area around Volente on Lake Travis. In my area (Deep East Texas) I can tell you for certain that 'Hog Doggers' were responsible for the spread. They brought in hogs (in the mid 80's to early 90's) and turned them loose so they would have something to run. Populations here quickly exploded.

Cold weather isn't a hindrance to them. Canada is seeing a massive increase in hog numbers and distribution the last 10 years or so.

The top map was updated in 12/2016 and the bottom 12/2019. Makes me question whether the top map truly reflects 2004.

Texas does a great job of keeping them contained within the state.
