The wife and I are long past the years of extravagant Christmas gifts. We are more into something for the house or something that can be used for our own part of making our house a home.
But too often I hear from women that think getting something for the kitchen is an insult. As if a new set of pots and pans would be oppressive and lead to the idea that a woman should be in the kitchen making dinner.
My wife has asked for kitchen stuff many times, but this year she wanted a new washer. The old one had lost some functions and was clunking. She is happy as ever and I still have two days to dig up something else.
This got me thinking, do guys feel oppressed if the wife buys him tools? The idea that a guy should be required to fix the car or repair the house is expected. I suppose a snowflake, hipster boy might be bothered by tools.
Do women really get bent out of shape if they get pots and pans?
Right now I am hoping the microwave will hold out till her birthday.

I think some girls get bent out of shape, no matter the gift. Would it bother me? Of course not, and I spend as little time in the kitchen as possible. Truthfully, I think someone who truly loves to cook, would appreciate it more.

I had a new dishwasher installed yesterday. Considering I do most of the cooking, I don't feel like much of an oppressor.

I often suggest a vaccum cleaner with tongue-in-cheek. I don't really think I would dare. I would get a Swifter Sweeper instead.

I’m considering a new dishwasher, as soon as the bars open back up around here I’ll go shopping for a newer model.

You know that is why the bride wears white, because you want the dishwasher to match fridge.

Over the years, I have learned anything with a power cord is a bad idea to give to my wife, as a gift. They don't place the same value on "tools" that we do.

Christmas gifts are mainly for kids.
I think most adults should be mature enough to accept any gift graciously.

Whatever you do, stay away from exercise equipment and gym memberships. A new set of bathroom scales can also be hazardous to your health.

Oh man, this brings back a Christmas morning years ago when the oldest daughter was married to the first husband. She wanted jewelry, and that was not a secret. The SiL bought her a real nice shotgun. I bought my wife some jewelry in a familiar high dollar box that wasn’t wrapped or labeled. So, the daughter saw the box and assumed it was for her. I knew it wasn’t. Come Christmas morning the SiL gave the daughter the shotgun box and I gave my wife the jewelry box. It was awful. Slow motion train wreck. I could see the daughter’s expression when she realized what her gift was. Boy, that was bad. The SiL proved again and again that he was an idiot, and from what I hear, he is still proving it. I think back on that moment and still get a little sick to my stomach.

I asked for a toilet for the man cave one year, and was very happy to get it. She hired the install and bought the toilet. I use it, happily, several times a week.

I used to call my man cave "The Dead Head Shed". My sister-in-law, who doesn't focus on anything enough to completely listen, once had a sign made for me that said "The Head Shed". My elderly mother, and all of our children were there when I opened it. My wife just looked and me and shook her head "No."

Not Christmas, but at a couple's wedding shower for the daughter of a very close friend of mine, his ex (the bride's mother) gave her a vibrator. Now THAT was awkward. She musta had really tight shoulders.

If he got to keep the real nice shotgun, he might not be so dumb after all,
