Also, an old man told me one time "don't park your truck too close to them, they get to shoving each other and can cave in the side of the truck."

I knew by looking at his truck that he was telling it straight.

She was a good producer, her calves always brought good prices at the sale, she died about 5 years ago while calving.

Yep. I have Hereford and Angus cows and put an angus bull on them every year. I mostly feed off the 4-wheeler, open the bag up before I get there and feed a line out. The angus are bossy and the Herefords aren’t, but they are all big and heavy. I’m rigging a feeder either on the back of the 4-wheeler or a small utv. If you feed while walking the dumasses think what’s yet to come out of the bag is better than what already has.

I've been lucky I guess, I wont let my wife feed anymore because of this very reason. I like to feed inside my pens, so when I need to catch them, they go into the pens. It gets crowded pretty quick.

I had a good buddy that was pushing some cows into a catch pen with a gate, when one of them kicked it. When he came to, he was in an ambulance headed to the hospital. Luckily it was just a busted nose and some stiches. I told him he was ugly enough, no one would notice. I also told him that gates usually hit regular sized people in the chest, not the face.

I was lucky, Raised cows for 20 years and only got kicked once and that was a glancing blow from a calf.

A couple years ago a neighbor was helping a friend with his gentle cows. He was not so lucky and got ran over. He was about 75. It put him in the hospital and he past after a couple of weeks.

After 20 years of chasing runaways, fixing fence, after work feeding and visits to the vet it stopped being fun. Life is much nicer without cows to worry about.

My dad had A friend who was working cows in some new pens, one section of the pen had square cattle panels and he climbed up on the fence and cow got butted into his leg, and apparently there was a jagged edge on the cattle panel and nearly sliced his foot off from the ankle down

Yep, pretty careful, even around "pets". If there is food coming, they want to be first in line and not picky about who needs to get pushed out of the way.

Many years ago we were working yearling steers and I was sorting. Guess I got kicked by one, but I don't really remember. Co-workers said I got up, shook it off, finished the day and then we all went out to the honky-tonk that evening. Again, I didn't remember any of it, or any of the next couple of days. On the third day I came out of the fog and realized I had lost all memory of those few days.

Be careful...

The reason I no longer have cattle. Even sheep or goats will cause us damage when food is dispensed. I now keep the critters outside the feed lot, put out the feed then open the gate from a semi safe position beside the gate post.
My cattle were gentle. I could carry their new borns to the barn, sit on one, but when feed comes out they change.

I have had cattle near all my life. Run all the herds from Beefmaster to African Zs. The worst were the Longhorns. My Dad wanted some so we bought a small herd. Dodging baseball bats any time you have to work them makes you fast. They are gentle most of the time but I did see my large bull disassemble a Nissan pickup one time. I told the dummy not to mess with him, but nooo. He took the grill, headlights and radiator out with one swipe of the horns. Then write his name up and down both sides of the pickup. Hard to read Longhorn but we knew what it said. Don't mess with the bull!!!. Sold out a few years ago and I miss them but with age come limits.

They don't have to be mean to be dangerous. When I was a kid we had an old Jersey milk cow that was as sweet and gentle as a puppy. She stepped on and broke my mothers foot. Her foot bothered her until the day she died.

Very similar story....My grandmother had a jersey as gentle as could be. She went out to milk her one morning and the cow bumped into and knocked my grandmother down. She passed away the next day from a blood clot in her brain.
Animals can be very dangerous.

I was working some cows one day with two good Cowboys they did it everyday for living, next thing I looked up to see one of them flying thru the air landing between the lot fence and the barbed wire fence which was about a foot apart his boots were up by where his hat used to be,it took a while to get him cut out of that mess. The culprit was a big black brahma cow with horns that seemed to reach into the sky.

A couple of years ago at the farm I looked out the window and saw one of the cows giving birth right beside the pond. It was about 40 degrees and half the calf was in the water. By the time I got my boots on, got the mule out of the shop and rode to the far side of the pond the calf was 5 feet from shore with its head barely above the surface. I waded out and grabbed it by the ear and started pulling it ashore when mama decided I was hurting her offspring and she was going to do something about it. I changed direction where I could get some cover behind the mule and got the calf out all the while that big black foaming at the mouth wide eyed animal was trying to head butt me into a mud hole.

When the Legislature ok’d the Wildlife exemption, I sold all my livestock including horses. No more contusions, broken bones, vet bills, doctor/hospital visits. Never again.

Now, I don’t have to worry about fences.

More than happy to raise deer, bass and bluegills. Not wild about the hogs. I sometimes shoot them and walk away. Let natures clean up crew take care of them.

Sorry, I disagree with your premise OP. I know a little about motorcycles & cows myself.

If you get hurt on your motorcycle, it’s entitely your fault. It’s an inanimate object.

You can get hurt by cattle (or horses) & it not be your fault, because they are animals with a mind or their own.

Your methods of feeding my them should set with safety in mind. Set up for success.

If you're on a motorcycle the drivers on the road with you, like them cows and horses, are animals with a mind of their own.... 2cents
