Guy a few doors down has the little BMW electric car. He was outside plugging it in two weeks ago when I was walking by, so I asked him about it. He said he loves it. Said at $0.08 a kilowatt hr it only costs him around $2.30 to charge it up, and a full charge gets him 200 miles. He has it set up on the 220v at his house and said a full charge takes about 3 hours.

Personally I think his little car is ugly with skinny tires, but he was really going on about how it’s the “way of the future” and how surprisingly fast it is. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Not sure how running out of GAS was the fault of an electric car...

Never laid fault on the car just said I don't plan on owning one.

Questions?

Light will be all LED. So power requirements would be low.

What about climate control?

Air conditioning is provided by electric compressor and fans. On a 100 degree day, how much does that reduce the range and increase the recharge cost? How well does it work?

How effective is heat and defrost systems?

Just curious.

If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

Yeah,....Take that thing out in a Minnesota blizzard, or Amarillo blizzard, and see how you like it.........dead on the side of the road, (the car)......then if they don't find you then you freeze to death.

I would not. But for my Wife who does not put a lot of long miles on a car it might be good. Only thing is that she does not drive enough miles to justify the extra cost of the car as opposed to a gas powered one.

Only if it’s a truck that’s looks good, that costs the same or less, has a towing range of about 400 miles, and you can’t feel this behind it.

In major metro areas they would be more than enough, for a lot of people. Out in our area a run around town shopping vehicle would be about the only use. Like some area approving SxS and UTVs the electrics like golf carts to run on city streets, are just the beginning of changing minds. Electric bicycles have made a big move in the last few years, a lot of that was because too many Americans are too lazy and fat to peddle one.

yep, short commutes is where an EV would shine. Long haul or loads are out of the question. For now.

The majority of my driving is hauling the kids from place to place. I would say 90% of my driving is within 30 miles of my house and the majority of that is within 10 miles. I dislike small cars, but if someone came out with a large SUV I would consider it. I’ve got a paid off truck to haul stuff and could use that for any longer trips I need to take.

Then he doesn't drive too far and only uses about 29 KWH. The math is straight forward.

A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.

Batteries are improving, but slooowly. Tesla is just now starting to produce their second generation of battery tech. It is a noticeable improvement in design. I figure that about midway through generation 3, with a bunch of nuclear power plants added to the grid, it should be workable.

edit: Might even start to have an electric aircraft industry by then.

Yep, said he only drives it around town but that it works for him. Also said there are bigger batteries, but he has a smaller one.

I did hear the next new corvette is supposed to have both electric and gas, and be really fast. Sounds like more to go wrong to me.

I don't see the need at this point
My ? Would be why have they not made the vehicles self charging yet
Couple alternators built into the wheels seems like a plan then no mileage limit and no need for prolonged plugging in

So what your saying is, charge the electric car with a non-emission controlled Diesel engine?
