Well yesterday was mule deer gun opener for us. We have had this big boy on camera for a few weeks eating alfalfa. Brought little man out with me to share what I was hoping would be a memory of a lifetime. Well by the grace of God it all worked out.

Me and little man got in the pop up watching the alfalfa pen about an hour before light. Right at first light I can see 3 deer in the pen. About 10 min goes by and I can see a little better and can tell Pitchfork is in the pen. Then 2 other mule deer start fighting outside the pen and he jumps out and chases them off. About 20 min goes by and all I see is antlers coming up from behind a hill. I knew instantly it was him. My son started shaking with excitement and I was doing my best to hold myself together. He walked behind the pen and began to thrash a small bush. As soon as he stopped I exhaled and pulled the trigger. Pitchfork was down and he dropped in his tracks.

Why do I call him “Pitchfork” well this deer is a non typical with tridents on both sides that look like pitchfork and I killed him on the historic Pitchfork ranch so I thought the name was well deserved. This is a buck of a lifetime and one I will cherish forever. For those that want to know he unofficially scored 192 3/8.

Fantastic buck Sapper! Glad it all worked out like you had hoped it would to hunt this buck with your son. Truly is a buck and hunt of a lifetime, but it was even more special to share it with your son. Glad you kept your promise to him and shared the hunt together. All the trail cam pics were good you shared but he looks much better in the after pics Your text early yesterday morning after that shot had me excited that your dream came true. Even more that he dropped in his tracks.
