I’m saying scope, not mounts and rings. The fact that it’s a $1k scope does dampen my logic on the problem being the scope, but I did send my equally expensive Vortex Viper 6-24 PST ffp gen 1 back to Vortex. So, it can happen.

So, I’ve put my imaginary money where my mouth is. What about you wimps?

Let’s have a small bet for funsies, with Monopoly money, say $20 of not real money. I’ll bet it’s the scope. Who’s in?

My monopoly Money is 100% on action screws. Danged old scope is 100% my second guess. Like JG I’ve saw loose action screws throw em everywhere. I sold a great rifle once because of it. It was a sure nuff factory shooter. I adjusted the trigger. It never shot again. New owner was nice enough to let me know it was the screws. bang I learned something that day.

I didn't mean to go buy a new scope - I was assuming this wasn't the only scope he owned...

I'm going with action screws. I bet $20.00 and a get out of jail free card tag.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

And $1000 scopes can go out anytime. If you have something made in the Philippines, China, etc., they're generally not as reliable as Japan, Europe, USA, etc.

Since the action screws were loose, and hedging my bet with the manufacturer advising he check the action screws, I’m calling your $20 and raising Boardwalk and Park Place that loose action screws are the culprit.
Having sat two years, I would probably give things a good cleaning if you have not already.
Torque the action screws and shoot the gun. One thing at a time is the route I would take so I learn what the root of the problem is.
