Lately when I'm shopping online for 45 ACP ammo, steel cased is the only stuff available for less than 75 cents per round.

Anyone have experience with running steel case ammo through a 45? In particular, through a Sig. I don't mind if the steel case ammo is "dirtier" - I clean my weapons after shooting anyways. Just don't want to run ammo through that might damage the gun.

Depending on the pistol it could be worse than nothing. Some of the ejectors/extractors are not hardened enough and will quickly fail. I would do some research on your particular sig. I bet it’s good to go but I would make sure.

Shot a “ton” of cheap steel Tula through a Sig 220 with no issues other than it is a bit dirtier than other brands.

Haven’t shot any in a 1911 though, not because I think it is bad for it, it just feels....I dunno....blasphemous or something.

I’ve done it when I was young and didn’t have much money, it will work just like everyone has said it tends to be dirtiest ammo ever, but if you clean after the range trip no big deal..

I load hard cast 200 groan lrnfp laser cast bullets over either bullseye or tight wad if you buy the bullets online in 750 qty or more they were really inexpensive like .075 cents per, so about another .06 for your primer and powder and you’d be shooting loaded rounds for about .12 a shot, if you have brass..

45 is one that really benefited from hand loading in terms of damage to your wallet!

Some years back, when I was competing regularly, an acquaintance gave me 2 5 gallon buckets full of WW2 steel-case 45ACP. I don't remember exactly how many rounds were there, seems like just shy of 10,000 IIRC. I shot it all through a Glock 21 with no ill effects.

It seems to me I had half a dozen misfires, but that was pretty good for the age of the ammo and the less than ideal storage method...

I have shot some steel case 40 out of a Para 1911. It worked just fine.

I'm guessing a few Ks of Tula through a RIA 4,1/4 inch milspec. Shoots just as good as white box.
