An old chainmail glove that must have been dropped by one of the Conquistadors. Bundles of drugs . Human remains.

Found this rounded rock with an irregular groove worn around it while looking around a dry creek bed at our lease in Blanco Co. It caught my attention because it didn't match any of the other rocks on the creek bed and is was very round. The groove surprised me and I kept it and cleaned it out. I've asked a few people who are arrowhead hunters and they believe that it is a very old stone hammer, but it's hard to say. I keep it in my office as I like the idea that this was a tool used by hunters who came before me!

Got any pics of the glove, by chance? That’s really cool! I have found Spanish coins from 1749 and metal arrowtips around them. Some that looked like they didn’t hit their target and some that did!

I may have told this before so go easy on me. A good friend of mine who passed a few years ago, used to meet me at my property near Leakey for our annual deer hunt. Rick and his Wife lived near Kerrville so it was an easy drive for him, 6 hours for me. After he died, I was sitting in a stand on our place in Erath waiting on a good buck to show up. Around 17:30 I decided to talk to Rick and ask his help conjuring up the buck. After chanting, " come on Rick, come on Rick". After the second come on Rick I hear KABOOM! Right behind my stand only a few hundred yards away. I didn't even know neighbors had a stand over there. I said, "thanks, Rick but you sent that deer to the wrong guy". I chuckled to myself. A moment later As I'm gathering my stuff up I noticed a carving in the blind from a pocket knife. It was "R B was here". Those were Ricks initials. Not earth shattering I know but coincidence? I think not.

Now that I'm thinking back, I came up on an old, really old house on a property I used to hunt on near Cross Plains TX. In it just some old furniture. What was strange is one of the chairs had lime poured all over it.

Found a stack of cannon balls while coon hunting.

Took one with me and went back the next day for the rest of them.

I never found them, I looked for them a few days. It's like they just disappeared.

Looked for them for a few yrs every time I would go back to visit.

Me and my cousin would talk about them for years. I still have the one around here somewhere.

That's a 'Bola sinker', paleo-early archaic. Looks like a 'Waco sinker' except it's not notched. Groove encircles the rock. Very cool find.

It hangs from the bottom of a kind of 'purse sein' to hold it down. Very crude but they actually worked well. They are probably 5-6k years old. If you look up 'Bola sinker artifacts' there's a lot of info on them. I have one that was found in Gruene on the Guadalupe. One of the local archaeologists told me what it was. Fascinating.

You're welcome. My FIL lives in Gruene, so we visit often. He has a dugout/burned out cypress tree hull that he found on the river years before the area was developed. It's a native American canoe. He has it in his yard as a planter. I've found a lot of artifacts through the years. The Bola sinker was one of them. Numerous points and pottery shards too.

Jacking around Lake Bardwell back in the 90s after a duck hunt. Came across a set of busted balloons in a field that butts up to the lake. There were notes in the balloons from a couple of students from Mansfield ISD. They signed their full names and man...those names sounded familiar. Sure enough, they were my wifes younger cousins.

We confirmed with their mom and she said it was class project. I wish i wouldve kept them. I still shake my head at the odds of that happening.

Scouting the lease for a new area with my Dad and we stumbled across this 1930s GMC truck. My Dad really thought it would be cool to have the front grill to hang on his shed. I called the land owner and asked if I could purchase the grill. We agreed on a price and I gave it to my Dad for Father’s Day. Doesn’t seem like it would weight that much, but that weighed a lot. I used a game cart to haul it out of the woods (about 400 yards) over some rough ground.
