I was in a meeting about 2 blocks from the capital. News came in about WTC bombing. By noon DC was in full evacuation mode. When we broke for lunch we could see the smoke rising from the pentagon. Since most of the participants at the meeting were from out of town and we had no way to get home it was decided to continue the meeting. By 7PM DC was a ghost town except for armed military patrolling the streets. We were unable to leave DC till Friday when rented a car and started the long drive. Very scary time, wife home by herself with very little communication. We started each meeting session with a prayer for our country and those leading our nation. Such eerie feeling to see our Capital a virtiual ghost town.

Was in my first year of dental school....it had only been a couple weeks. First thing in the morning of our first class of the day the professor walked in about 15 minutes late, which never happened. He said, "Everyone needs to go home, and turn on the news." We were all confused because they never cut us any slack or give any time off. About 4-5 of us went to a buddy's apartment and watched the rest of the day, got home in time to see the towers collapse. I'll never forget it.

Headed to a job we had running in Austin (Terry Town) when I had Lone Star Iron Works a running. When I arrived the Lady of the house had brought all my Guys in, sat them down in front of the TV set and serving them coffee and cookies. She was a crying and they were afraid to say no. She and Her Husband (A Cardiac Surgeon) were good folks for sure. Finally after a couple hours told the Guys to take the rest of the day off with pay.

I had an appointment with a prospect at 10 a.m. that morning. At first, the reports indicated that a plane had hit the Trade Center and people were speculating that somebody in a Cessna had a stroke or heart attack. Then the second one hit.
When I picked up my kids from school that day, my daughter asked me what it all meant. All I could think of was that a lot of daddies and mommies were going to be lost.
"Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day? Were you in the yard with your wife and children Or working on some stage in L.A.?
Did you stand there in shock At the sight of that black smoke Risin' against that blue sky? Did you shout out in anger In fear for your neighbor Or did you just sit down and cry?
Did you weep for the children who lost their dear loved ones Pray for the ones who don't know? Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble And sob for the ones left below?"
"If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under." Ronald Reagan

Home from the night shift eating breakfast in front of the TV. Watched the whole thing from the start. We were in Richmond, VA at the time. Called the wife and told her to get the heck out of downtown Richmond.

I commuted to the office from Plano to Fort Worth, and the radio announced the World Trade Center was hit by a plane. I looked South towards the World Trade Center in Dallas, saw no smoke, and continued to Cowtown. I got to the Central office at SBC, where the TV showed the second tower getting hit. It occurred to me that the building I am in is a target, so I went home.

I was standing in the hall talking to another coach. Ms D. walked out and said a plane just hit the tower. Spent the next week watching all the news reporting it.

Was in Houston for a meeting with one of my real good customers. Had brought in 2 out of town guys for the meeting. First plane hit as we walked into the meeting and second hit as we walked out. Next 4 hours trying to get one guy on plane back to Florida. Other guy had no luck trying to get to Portland so finally told him I am heading to Burleson to be with my family, He ended up staying with us for 3 days then rented a car and drove back. Still have a special bond with the customer

Sat in my office with my crew watching it all unfold on TV. Sent my guys home to be with their families.

At a conference in D/FW, staying at LaQuinta next to Six Flags. Couple of us drinking coffee in my room, customer calls and says turn on the tv. We watched it all unfold on tv for a few hours. It was an eerie feeling later that night when a few of us went to dinner, the streets were deserted.

Flying to Rhode Island and got grounded in Nashville TN. Took a couple of days to get home because all the rental vehicles were gone and I had to ride a bus back. It was weird to be told we are landing at the nearest airport and then when we got off the plane not a single television was on. It was strange. If my brother hadn't have called I wouldn't have known what was going on. I went straight to the desk and got a hotel voucher. Got to the room and turned on the news and found out we were under red alert because the Oakridge Nuclear plant could have been a target. Thank God and Greyhound I made it home.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

I was living in St Pete, FL at the time. AT work, I remember someone saying a plane hit one of the twin towers in NY. We turned on the TV in the break room, and people would filter in and out casually watching the coverage of the accident. That's what we thought at the time. Just a terrible Plane Crash. Once the 2nd hit, pretty much all work stopped for the rest of the day, and we watched news coverage all day.

I remember 9/11 like it was yesterday. I was teaching at Pearl River Community College in Mississippi. Total disbelief, when a fellow teacher said…”Did you hear about a plane hitting a building in New York? They just said something about it on the radio”. No, hadn’t heard anything. We turned on a TV in one of the teaching labs and shortly we saw the second tower get hit…we stood in disbelief. Our minds could not comprehend what we were seeing. We stood in silence with other co-workers and students as our world changed in front of our eyes. Yes, I did tear up, as did everyone else. I know we all were praying in the midst of our confusion. Then we heard about the Pentagon and Flight 93. Time stood still and the crowd in the lab grew. There was no teaching that day…but there was plenty of learning.
That horrible day will always be ingrained in my mind, along with the day that I got the call that my dad had passed away and the day of the Challenger accident. I do remember the great days also...the day each of my children was born and the day I got married to my beautiful wife. I pray for more of the great days, and no more of those horrible days.
Another thing that I also remember about 9/11 is what happened beginning on 9/12. Our nation became one, patriotism was through the roof. Blood banks had lines around the block with people wanting to donate. Charity and giving to those effected was incredible. Military recruiters were turning people away because they could not take any additional applications. Men and women wanted to defend the country they loved, that had been dealt a devastating blow. Firefighters, policemen, military members, paramedics, all forms of first responders became instantly revered as heroes…as they should be. We all worked together…that was a beautiful thing.
It is sad to see how far we are from that unity now. Our country is fragmented, imploding on itself, and frankly on the verge of collapse. I pray for that 9/12 unity again…NOT through the same or similar events, but through love and the mighty hand of GOD. That is all. GOD BLESS THE USA 🙏🙏

8th grade - 13 years old, a few days shy of 14. Tuesdays I was in my G/T classes all day. Teacher usually brought breakfast so we were all there early. By 7:55 her phone was ringing - her husband was in NYC for a work conference and he saw the first plane hit. We immediately turned on the TV a minute or two before the 2nd plane hit. Watched the rest of the day. A lot of it is a blur, but I can close my eyes and clearly see the 2nd plane hitting and the buildings collapsing to this day.

Checking out of my hotel room in Manchester, NH ready for a meeting. The meeting was canceled and I already had my rental car, so I ate breakfast and started the 3,200-mile drive home to Morro Bay, CA.

I was in the hospital with my wife. She had given birth to my youngest son the day before 9/10/01. We were asleep and woke up to it on the TV just before the second tower was hit. I thought I was dreaming! The more I watched it I realized it was real and I still couldn't belive it.

Brunch meeting in North Dallas. Watched it unfold on the restaurant bar TV while waiting on customers to join us. Meeting never happened. Went back to the office for a couple hours and by around noon or so was telling everyone to just go home.
