I am in a 13” county but there is a buck that must have gotten injured or just bad genes. Anyone have any ideas what to do? Don’t want him spreading bad genes.

Antler damage this year in velvet and he won't look like that next year ...unless he damages it again. It is not genetics. He won't qualify for AR unless he is over 13" inside.

I agree with STRM and, if he is young, and that happens to be genetics by chance, then he may bring some interesting racks to the buck heard.

99.9% of the time it will be antler damage that caused that NT look. You are not going to change the genetics of that deer herd by shooting or leaving that one buck in/from the herd.

Had a buck like that last year and contacted the GW. Told me it was damaged in the felt stage and would not qualify. He forwarded the pic to the biologist who confirmed that it was probably due to an injury.

Save pic to my big monitor and it sure looks like damage to me and not any genetic thing. Also, just from looking at this deer's face he looks young so he has the potential to be a really good deer in the future
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Id just be happy he should get a free pass to make it to next year.
Dont forget the genetics of what you see are deeply rooted in your deer heard your not going to change it by shooting him or leaving him. Like others have said my bet is on an injury, the bad part is he's likely to look normal next year.

I have read that if a deer suffers an injury in velvet, the opposing antler will be stunted. Is there any sign of a wound on his left side? Bet he is as good as new next year.

No legal exception short of written confirmation with photo supporting evidence from GW and I don't see that happening so I would not even ask. Hopefully just an injury and next year will be surprise. Unfortunately I do have some genetic 'cactus' rack bucks on a small lease (3 of them) with picks now last 3 years. Oldest is at least 4. None of them are legal in AR county and no injuries. A couple years they have stayed velvet all year. YUK!

Looks like an injury. Most genetic cases show a problem with both antlers.

Are you sure it's a 'buck' and not maybe a doe with antlers (female with high testosterone levels)? It happens.
