I have a hog trap that has a swinging door that closes with a screen door spring, and can be manually held open with a piece of rebar. I would like to be able to, from a blind that's about 50 yards a way, trigger a solenoid to release the swinging door. I envision a device that sits on top of the trap and has a plunger sticking down to hold the gate open, and that is activated by the solenoid that pulls said plunger straight up, releasing the door. Does anyone have any suggestions or plans to make such a mechanism?

A basic car alarm with a 12 volt trunk actuator and a 12v battery would probably do exactly what you need for less than a hundo spent. Could probably package the whole thing in an ammo can.

Something like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/DC12V-4CH-200M-Wireless-Remote-Control-Relay-Switch-2-Transceiver-Rece-Quality/184397271509?hash=item2aeeef11d5:g:Uf0AAOSwlWFZmprg
Hooked up with a car door solenoid to trigger a release.

Thanks for all the ideas, guys! I'll start getting the parts and pieces together and will take a pic of what I wind up with.

Hunter-Steve, tell me more about your entire actuator and cell phone controller set-up, please! Using the phone rather than a "clicker" eliminates one more thing for me to keep up with!! If you have pictures and/or diagrams, it would sure help me. I'm a bit technically challenged. . .OK, I'm a lot technically challenged!

I don't have diagrams and it is a bit of a technical setup. The most expensive component will be this https://smile.amazon.com/KiaoTime-GSM-RELAY-US4G-Output-Control-Contact/dp/B01MZ0VFAA/ref=smi_www_rco2_go_smi_4368549507?_encoding=UTF8&%2AVersion%2A=1&%2Aentries%2A=0&ie=UTF8 Check out these two threads for more details: https://texashuntingforum.com/forum...ess-trigger-anyone-done-this#Post7443637https://texashuntingforum.com/forum...56/re-hog-trap-working-great#Post7741556Here is a pic of the inside of the controller box that is set up with a solar panel

Rig it up with a steel gong on the end. Shoot the gong and it closes the gate I set a water bottle with a clothes pin that I hot glued to the bottle,to attach to the prop stick. Shot it at 60 yards and it dropped the stick and closed the gate perfectly. Don't believe I need the clothes pin; the explosion of the water bottle shook the entire trap! It was amazing! I have shot lots of water bottles to check expansion and penetration, but never shot one that was sitting on top of a cow panel constructed hog trap. I'll be working up the high tec version so I can do it all from home, without the water jugs, thanks to all the suggestions you all have provided me!
