Any thoughts or recommendations for powder, bullet, etc? Going to use in AR 15 upper in 7.62x39.

I am running two different 7.62x39 uppers, both 16" 1:10 twist. I pull the FMJ bi metal bullets from Wolf 123 gr. steel case ammo and replace it with a 123 gr. Hornady SP or SST. When I pull the bullets in a bunch, I dump all the powder and recharge the steel cases from my Lyman Digital powder dispenser. This gives a more consistent velocity on the steel stuff. I load the same two bullets in my brass cases and after trying a few different powders and charges, I settled on 27 grains of RL7. This load chrono's at 2466 FPS muzzle velocity, 1661 ft.lbs of muzzle energy. Here is a picture of the "Mexican Match" ammo I make up along with a 100 yd target with the brass case ammo I load. This particular 5 shot group was off of a front bag only shooting the 123 grain Hornady Soft Point Spitzers and last year's buck with that ammo. Notice, these are my loads in my rifle. I am sharing what I did for myself. YMMV.

I tried the Mexican Match ammo also, but only pulled and replaced the bullet. It is surprising how much better groups I got just by changing the bullet.

CD, that's what I had set out to do but being OCD as I am, I decided to weigh each charge of the Wolf steel ammo. I don't know what powder they used of course but there was as much as a full grain difference high or low in the powder charges. The tweaked Wolf stuff shoots surprisingly well.

Interesting...
Never thought of pulling the FMJ and replacing with good bullets.
I have a bunch of Winchester brass that I have loaded with Hornady SST bullets for pigs that shot very well.
Might try pulling some spam can steel FMJ and changing them if I get bored.

Just putting the 7.62x39 FMJ round in a decent 7.62x39 AR upper will give surprising accuracy compared to same round in an AK or SKS.
