Frio is open.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

No driving on the beach=a lot less fun. Why would they not allow you to drive? It is the best way to spread out miles along the beach. Does it need to make sense to fit this narrative? Does removing the driving reduces the number of people that want to go to the beach. Do what? I think they're doing the same thing they did for July 4th weekend. They're trying to keep a bunch of people from coming into town at all. The best way to keep tourists away is to take away their ability to go where they want to on the beach.

We have a trip planned to north padre at the end of the month. We have been watching the live beach cams to get an idea of the situation. When it was open to driving there was a “camp” every 15-20 feet with a family or group of 5-10 at each.... since the time of restriction there has been a family every 100-150 feet that we can see so it seems that cutting down of the vehicle traffic has reduced the number of beach goers considerably..... honestly I’m ok with a less crowed beach for my family to play on.... walking a little farther will be ok with us.
learn something new everyday and you will have never wasted a day.

Just cancelled our trip for next week there as well. Found round trip tickets to Miami for $49. Will go to Key West instead. I just cancelled my RT ticket to Miami. Was going in two weeks. As of not the beaches are still open but required to wear masks at all times, there is a curfew and lot of other things are closing. Who knows what it will be in two weeks. So, decides to preemptively cancel. I bought multiple $50 RT tickets two months ago. Also supposed to be going to Washington DC in September and Vegas in October. Im hoping the Smithsonian museums are open by september as thats the reason Im going.

Check Padre Island. We just came back from four days there at the Island House. Beaches were open, although fairly crowded. Island House is where the bride and I always stay, nice place. Spend a lot of evenings at Skuttlebutts.

Rockport was kind of funny, they closed the public beach so people just parked on broadway and laid out.....
