Hope things turn out well with your recovery. You probably aren't missing anything by not having the nerve block. I had one when I had elbow surgery a few years ago and walking around with a dead hand was miserable. My block was supposed to last 24 hours and thankfully it only lasted about 4 hours. It may have also been that I kept flexing my hand until I started to get feeling in it again.

If they made incisions in the crease of your arm on the inside of your elbow, ask your doctor when you can straighten out your arm brace and open up the area. I misunderstood what my doctor told me and I kept my arm locked and covered at 90 degrees for far too long. It didn't affect the success of my surgery, but it caused my incisions to get slightly infected because the area stayed covered and moist instead of being open and dry. The end result was more scaring in that area than I should have had.

Thanks,
Rich

Thanks, Rich. My incision is on the outside the elbow, but it will be covered until the 17th when I follow up with my ortho.

With apologies to Nathan, I'm bumping this one back up in order to preserve the collective content and commentary instead of starting a new thread. Pretty sure we don't need a bunch of different elbow threads.

But the right elbow noted above healed extremely well and better than my PTs were expecting. The interesting thing is that during my recovery, my left elbow starting hurting in the same exact spot...the common extensor tendon on the outside of the elbow. No injuries associated with either elbow issue, they just started hurting. Fast forward to a few months ago and the MRI confirmed what I already knew...another torn tendon. Looks like surgery next week to repeat the first procedure on the second elbow... drill another anchor into the bone and reconnect the tendon. This one will be more interesting as I think more activities will be impacted with the loss of this arm. I'm fairly ambidextrous, but there are still things I only do with certain hands. eeks333

Double tennis elbow and a torn rotator cuff here.

6 months ago I thought I was invincible

I have golf elbow on both sides. It's the same only I feel mine on the inside not outside. I bought a sleeve and that did no good. Haven't tried anything else.

Pass the gravy.

kry226, hopefully you heal quickly and completely.

Nathan, I don't know how old you are, but I'm in my mid 60's so this may or may not apply to you. I had surgery to do a trigger release on my left thumb and while I was doing the work up with the surgeon, I asked him about my tennis elbow on my right arm. He asked me what arm I used to most to lift my cup to drink with. I told him my right arm, then he asked me how big of a Yeti or Arctic cup I used. I told him the 30 ounce one and he told me to drop down to a 20 ounce and see if it gets better. Low and behold, it healed within a month. On my last checkup, I asked him what was going on. He said that when we drink, we just pick up the cup at any angle or distance but when lifting weights we pay more attention to form. He also said we do so many repetition that the number and lack of form can cause problems.
I had tried braces and a steroid shot and they were short term fixes. I have not had any pain in my elbow in almost a year now.
Just something to think about.
