I found one a few years ago crossing a street. It wasn’t gonna make it, so I took it home. Wife hated it, then became found of “Fredrick”.
He died. What do y’all recommend. We have a secured backyard, small koi pond.

I pick up box turtles all the time and bring to my boss and he releases them on his place in Poetry. Next one I get, I'll pm you.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

I went to a friend of a friends house once and they had a giant tortoise in the backyard. Not sure if the breed or species but with its head up it was probably about 2 feet high. Pretty cool actually.

Snapping turtle. One bad dude! More precisely an alligator snapping turtle their max size is reported to exceed 300lbs but they are extremely rare over 100. Common snapping turtles max out at 75 lbs and are rare over 25.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Common snapping turtles max out at 75 lbs and are rare over 25. I still feel bad for running one over about a year ago. It was in the middle of my county road. Bet it was 60 lbs at least. I was late for something and since it was sitting in the middle of the road, I figured Id straddle it. Well it must have taken off fast as soon as I got over it because it made it under the back wheel of my truck, broke part of its shell. Ive pulled over and moved turtles out of the road before, but was in a hurry. Should have stopped and corralled it out of the road. I remember as a kid coming across a monster alligator snapper in the pasture by our house in arkansas by the pond. From what I remember, it was probably the same size as this one, over 50 lbs. We spent the day poking sticks at it and watching it bite them in half.
