I prefer HEB to Walmart because of smaller sizes on the same brands. Never understood why in my whole wide world why I would want to buy a 32 roll package of toilet paper. When there are 11 people in your house you might understand. ![hammer hammer](/forum/images/graemlins/default/hammer.gif)

Went to the new HEB by the house this morning and ran into Scott McClelland, the President of HEB. Talked for a few minutes and he seems like a pretty decent fellow. I thought it was cool that he was there for the opening. Cool - Where at? HEB bought land in north Denton some years ago, right by the Academy - I sure wish they would put a superstore in! That's the one thing I've been sorely missing being up north, having lived in south and central Texas - I do love me some HEB!!! HEB does some interesting things that the Feds do not see, since they are a small player in the grocery market. We studied them at TAMU. They will pinch a penny out of small suppliers better than Wally World. DFW does need HEB. They would clobber Kroger. I just do not know if they can get the stock to get into DFW heavily. The foundation is already in Dallas. It took HEB 15 years or so to capture the market share in Houston. I would imagine they would be able to better that in Dallas.

HEB Partner here....I echo that Scott is a nice guy. I've met him once, in a hallway at a regional office. He took time to stop and chat with me. I met Charles once after the Bastrop fires. You wanna talk about a nice guy? Charles fits that and his pic may be in the dictionary under nice guy. I've worked for HEB for 20 years and couldn't imagine working elsewhere. HEB did implement Texas Proud Pay in the form of $2/hr for all hourly store and warehouse employees, which was temporary. After it ended, those same hourly employees got very nice raises although it likely wasn't $2/hr. The raises were the largest in company history. I wasn't affected by the extra during the pandemic nor the raises this week. Lubbock is set for this fall and I wish I could say DFW is about to happen but I'm not kept in that circle! I do know that Hudson Oaks has been a success.
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

I'm heading there tomorrow morning.
