Can someone give a good guess of an elk shoulder mount. I know the size of the rack would make somewhat of a difference of course. With some luck I hope to have one ready for the wall after a planned hunt in September.

i would guess 50-100# max depending largely on the antlers.

I’d guess less than 100 after hanging my dads. You are going to want to make sure you are good and centered on a stud.

284’ish in my house is under 50lb. I bet it’s closer to 35-40lbs

they feel very heavy when they fall on you.

Just for reference I just weighted a 250” 6x6 with skull plate, it weights 9 pounds

Cousins fell, broke its nose. after re-hanging , he used a guy wire to make sure it doesn't happen again.

they sell these two piece channel brackets that i used for a cape buffalo. its the way to go and they are weight rated. the other thing to consider is if the antlers are removable which can make things easier and might not add that much cost to the taxidermy

Ditto re: the removable antlers. My taxi did that for me and made transporting and hanging MUCH more tolerable.

I have had my elk shoulder mount hanging on lag bolts for over 20 years, most of that time was above the fireplace with lag bolt into the correct lead anchor. Now it is on a sheet rock wall on a 5/16 =X3.5 lag bolt screwed into a stud that I drilled a 1/4 inch pilot hole in. This mount weighs a little under 40lbs 290" bull 6X6 bull

My elk weights about 75 lbs. it's 355"

Re: the channel bracket.
One piece screws into the wall and creates a channel and the other piece screws to the back of the mount and fits into the channel. As to linking together I have not seen those if u are asking about the wall portion of the brackets
