I've never seen one in person, but there was a Weatherby run with mesquite wood stocks. The stocks looked phenomenal! I heard they stopped because solid mesquite blanks were hard to find & the router bits wore out too quick. Some Pics Here

More modern the equipment the better they typically shoot.
Call Thompson Longrange, sure they can get you a shooter all set up

the older Japan Models had some beautiful wood. IMO, and this goes for all manufactures', is that you don't get the same quality of wood as you did years ago.
accuracy wise the newer ones are more accurate across the board
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

accuracy wise the newer ones are more accurate across the board I've seen that with Kimber and Sako. Wood used to be gorgeous, now pretty plain.

which Mark V is the prefered gun to own? Do any shoot better than others? re; japan california sheridan wyoming For that you need to look for Japan, allot of the wood they were getting then was some of the best you could find, hard to find wood of that quality anymore. They are not as accurate as the Weatherby's manufactured today and a person shouldn't expect them to be. Allot of technology has changed since those day. With that said I've yet to see an old one not shoot at least an inch with a good shooter and factory Weatherby ammo. Saved your first question for last. If you can find an old Weatherby look for the Euro models with a high grade stock, those are the best felling models out there, others are nice also but the do have a different feel. Caliber's? I have to go with the 257, that was Roy's favorite caliber if you can't find that (Don't be surprised if you can't) look for the 300. They're hard to find for a reason and if you do find one get ready to dig deep. You'll never regret it.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Just one more thing!
These are the kind of rifles you buy and you don't shoot and you don't get rid of, unless you're willing to make that kind of a commitment I'd buy a new model. The new model is far more accurate you can still get descent wood and they like all Weathery's hold their value well. Hang on to it long enough and you'll make money.

I like the lazermark. That's the wood I'm looking for but not a fan of the "laser grips". Little busy for my old tastes

Look for the now discontinued Euro model Buzz.
They typically had very nice wood with a nice oil finish.
They were only made for a few years and in low numbers.

which Mark V is the prefered gun to own? Do any shoot better than others? re; japan california sheridan wyoming Well none of the above. The most sought after ones are the West German models. I have played with a few and once you handle one you will know why they are so sought after. The profile of the stock feels much better than the newer ones. More of a slim feel and less bulk. Not to mention overall quality is second to none in the Mark V's they produced there.

Also don’t overlook the Colt Sauer. They are a step up from the Mark V and one of the finest factory bolt rifles ever made.

Just as a warning! This one will set you back about 7 grand. Interesting on the value. I have a MARK V made in South Gate, Calif., Serial No. is in the 15XXX range. I inherited the rifle and best I can remember it was made somewhere prior to 1965. , it's a .270 Mag. The checkering on it is similar without the diamond. The checking is oak leaves with acorns. Any idea of a value? I maybe be low on what I marked down for my records.

It’s loud as hell but really isn’t bad on the shoulder....about like a .270 win. Compared to the .300 wby it’s really shootable
