I don't know what that's all about, but my experiences at Jason's range have all been great. Yes, I paid more than $40 but that was known going in. I wasn't there to just shoot. The first time he provided me a long range class and worked with me to get me and my gun on targets from 100 to 800 yards and to record the dope for my rifle and scope allowing me to shoot with both turret adjustments and hold over at all ranges. I learned more in that one full day with Jason than I had in years.

The second time he cleaned 2 rifles, sighted them at 100 yards, and with one of them we worked the dope out thru 700 yards where it began to peter out. Both times he served as instructor and spotter. Oh and he's patient when I get left and right mixed up smile

Both times I got more than my money's worth. I'll be happy to go back again and would recommend him to anyone (and have done so).

Earl

Sending a text to Kyle to "Find a new venue" before a match without even calling or explaining. Yeah, that's rude. It's certainly not a kind manner or smooth business way to tell someone your match is no longer welcome. I'd expect a Jr High kid to send a text to break up with someone, but not a match.

“Before a match”......If I remember correctly, we hadn’t even started scheduling matches, we were in the process of learning/deciding what ranges were available to us.

Exactly! I wouldn't either, but my cost from him was much higher than that to shoot there. I don't shoot there any longer and he ran Kyle's 22 LR matches off in a rude manner. There will be MANY people never shoot out there again. Good business, bad business decision, time will tell.

Look at the pot calling the kettle black. How quickly you have forgotten about welching on the silencer group buy and not honoring your word about making some ammo that you were going to be paid for. Yea, I'm going to get a lot of mileage out of that. I want everyone on this forum to know how you run YOUR business. I heard that you "forget" a lot!

+$30,000 down

Minimum $1000 per month. Not counting hours to maintain it, fuel, paint, target repairs. They are lots of money, and lots of work.

Having said that, I charge $40 per person. Not making money on that, but I make connections.

Jason's range is a bargain! I've only shot there once outside of a match, but I keep meaning to go back. When work slows down this fall, I'll definitely be calling him again. I'll just have to make due with my fil's 200 yard range for now.

There are PLENTY of good ranges out there. Some better than others. Jason's run several of us off, and me due to greed. You won't make money on a range running good paying customers off who come often.

You want this in the light this way, alright then. You're making a killing doing what you're doing, and paying me peanuts for it. I explained my outlay of money, risk, and thousands of hours of work put in. You had to do zero work EVER! Unlock the gate, do your thing, lock the gate. I built it, maintain it every week, paid for everything out there. Three times I told you not to drive off gravel, you failed to follow directections, cut ruts for me to fix, some not even on the range. Killing birds that are protected species, damaging targets and not telling me. Allowing friends to leave things for me to clean up, teaching people how to shoot, having the place to yourself almost whenever you wanted to, and I got greedy?

Genius move bringing this out in public, because I have not said anything to anyone. September 2019 you said you would think about it, and that's the last we spoke. You evidently lost my phone number and decided to use this forum. No the smartest second move.

Kyle wasn't ran off from anything. I said it would be a good idea to find another place to have the .22 matches while I was building a house. House build started Sep 2019, and is still being built.

Saying I'm greedy is like saying the bank is greedy for wanting me to pay them back every month. Or big oil is greedy expecting me pay what the pump says. Or the people that sold me the tractor were greedy, or the lot I bought the skidsteer from was greedy. A facility like mine is expensive. Expensive to buy, expensive to build up, expensive to maintain. I'm not greedy, I'm only trying to help recover some, and try to make the place at least pay for itself.

I have no idea what is going on, or who is at fault, but bringing this public on this forum was foolish. Both of you conduct business on this forum and both have significant support from this forum. How could this possibly work out in your favor with people who look to both of you for information and business? Chad I’m not calling you out, you called the tune.

Well damn I really didn’t want to be put in the middle of this. I’d just like to set the record strait on a couple of things.

Jason did text me that I should find a different venue for my 22 matches because he was starting on building the house. He let me know 3-4 weeks before the match. Yes I was bummed out because I had already set the date and started the registration process, but I completely understood because I’m sub contractors don’t want to be down range while a bunch of people they don’t know are shooting parallel to them. I know I probably wouldn’t want to work under those conditions. I reached out to Vesperman Sr and we got the venue taken care of and have since partnered on the new 22LR league.

I have business relationships with both of you and more importantly I consider you both friends and hope you guys get this stuff worked out.

Why did they want you to pay over their listed prices?

That is a very good question. I never looked at their list prices until you asked.

I popped in there on my daughter's birthday, figured I would sign up and pay for whatever I had to to get started. We really had just moved back to Texas and it was the closest range.

Girl's name was Chelsea I think? She was sweet. But the price she quoted me seemed unreal.

She did let us zero my daughter's .22 on the pistol range for $40, which was cool considering I made it plain and clear I had no intention of joining the gun club. They will give you a one-time trial of the range for a fee, after that you either sign up or never use it again.

I can only assume thst either A. It is because I was trying to sign up my whole family includig 18 and 19 year old boys, or B. They changed the price. Looks like the sign up fee is cheaper but the monthly rate is higher, than I remember.

It is a nice range if you have the money to spend on it. Awesme setups in there for clays, I think out to 600 for rifle, covered pistol ranges. It really was nice and seem like good people. But wayyyyyyy out of my price range.

Forgive me for quoting myself but seemed like the best answer.

I guess it is a country club. Not really my thing, wayyyy too expensive unless you have put down roots here for the next decade and shoot every weekend... then it starts to look like a great deal I suppose.

FWIW they are good people and I did not mean to put them in a bad light. Subject was high price shooting range.

I pay 200 year for a private range 10 miles from my house. Has rimfire range, several pistol bays and I think 8 or 10 rifle bays with targets out to 500 yds. Thats for my wife and I to go as often as we want.

Our deal was $20 per range trip. When you get a phone call discussing my load development on your range, saying " if you are doing on my range, what I could be doing on my range, then I want a bigger piece of your business". And the price goes from $20 a trip to $40 per rifle per trip. You know I take 3-5 rifles with me, so my price would be $120 to $200 per range trip. That's an F U price, and I took it as such. That's the definition of greed.

When you shoot 3-4 times a month, targets break, and a few ruts happen on a dirt range. With the layout of your range, you don't know you will make ruts until you are down range some. I brought you T Posts and wood target backer boards often. I left them in the barn and even put some up. I offered to help "pay for the diesel" as you call it, but the answer was always no with a lot of bitchin and moaning.

And yes, I took a few close friends out to shoot with me on several occasions who didn't know how to shoot past 100 yards. They each would pay your $40 fee and I didn't charge them to teach them. It's friends going shooting. That's what we do. I referred MANY of my customers to you, and you benefited from that.

But the F U price and greed is not what you do to friends. It's not how you keep friends and a working business relationship. It was a take it or leave it deal, and I left it.

None of my business, just my opinion, no dog in the hunt. If you’re using his range for business purposes and charging customers for load development per rifle a charge per rifle to use the range for that purpose doesn’t sound unreasonable. If you have five rifles and are charging $1,500-$2,000 for load development maybe $40 per rifle is too much I don’t know.
I would think the majority of people you do load development for also then purchase ammo and the cost of ammo plus cost of load development puts total revenue for a day at the range with 5 rifles around $2,500-$3000.
Based on that to me $200 for use of the range doesn’t seem like an F U price. But like I said I don’t know, could be wrong..... usually am... just ask my wife.

^^Said it for me. And you're not wrong. Pretty simple math.

Especially advertising on here getting DOPE for people to 800 yards, for an additional fee. Wonder where that was happening? And I heard the words "tell me what fee to pay and I'll pay it". And an offer made to me for a one time flat fee for the year, that I thought was too high for Chad. I thought it would he cheaper on him to pay as he goes. There were times he was here one week, then the next. Then 6 to 8 weeks would go by without coming out.

Could've been a phone call the next day or next week to talk about things some more. Nope, would rather wait 8 months and air it out in front of everyone. Says a lot.

Why does it matter what I'm doing and who I'm doing it for? $40 for everyone else, and $200 because of what I'm doing. That sounds right? I'm set up with 2 other ranges that I shoot at, that my business and their business cross paths and compete. Neither care what I do, as long as I pay the range fee. $40 for one and $20 for the other. No problem. There is also private clubs you can join for more money, and they don't care what you are doing on the range and who it's for. With the way things went down, greed was the motive of what I do. I also have a business to run that has bills and insurance payments. Heck, my insurance alone is $11K a year. We all have expenses. We all have to make a living. I make top quality ammo and provide a service very few can do or duplicate. It's a gun range I need to shoot at. Not be charged for more because of what I do at that range.
