They eat the larvae form of cicadas as they dig out of the dirt to climb up and become cicadas. Especially under live oak trees.

The only time I have seen them at the lease was a banner year of cicadas. Killed 4 one night in camp. And more. Now we just have rattlesnakes. Trade off I guess...

X2

In the end, it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years.

Scary how good they blend in. Stepped one one on a red clay porch in flip flops one night. My wife and father still remember how loud I scream at that one.

All I know is that tree wouldn't have any bark left if I had been the one to see it...I probably would have kept shooting my shotgun until the damn thing fell over.

Growing up in in southeastern Oklahoma our home backed up to woods with a small creek running through it. On about any afternoon in the spring and early summer, our back porch would regularly have 3 or 4 copperheads sunning themselves. A neighbor's young daughter was struck by one on her leg and spent time in the hospital. I am not a snake guy anyway, but especially detest copperheads.

4 snakes in one tree there is only thing to do--- cut the tree down. When can I come and pick up some firewood?
