The funny thing about it being illegal to kill a feral cat or dog is the fact they will be "euthanized" in short order once they arrive at the pound most of the time. My mom had a problem with them, and I trapped 23 cats and took them to the shelter in three different batches as I caught them. The guy out there gave me dirty looks and asked if I wanted him to give them shots and me keep them, because if not, in three days if nobody came to adopt them, they would all be put down, and he would be looking at putting down nearly 50 of them that week. I just asked him if he needed any help and he declined. Costs taxpayers thousands of times more ($100’s) of dollars to do what you could have done yourself for little to no costs....a couple dollars for bait and/or .22 shells.... More stupid overreacting government horsepoop....

At a previous lease there were about 20 feral cats living under the camp house. The past leasers said they kept the mice away, wrong, there was a mouse problem too. The camp house stunk of cat excrement and had fleas. A few mouse traps got rid of one problem, some bug bombs to get rid of another, and a few months later the cats mysteriously disappeared. It took some time for the smell to go away. We started seeing more quail in the years following. I rate feral cats right up there with feral pigs. At least you can eat a feral pig. What can’t you eat feral cats...meat is meat...how would it be any different than rabbit or squirrel...... Because cats are nasty, in my opinion.

SSS. They don't belong in our habitat. Same with feral dogs The 3rd S (shut up) can't be emphasized enough. Thanks to Rick Perry (and now Trump along with Congress), killing feral cats and dogs in Texas is a felony. Got a link?

Thanks to Rick Perry (and now Trump along with Congress), killing feral cats and dogs in Texas is a felony. Got a link? It was under Perry’s governorship, supposedly at the request of his daughter. I don’t have a link from when it was signed into law but could probably find it. https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/DocViewer.aspx?DocKey=PE%2fPE.42&Phrases=Feral%7ccat&HighlightType=1&ExactPhrase=False&QueryText=Feral+cat Here our Republicans in Washington declare the states too incompetent to manage our own animal cruelty laws: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/25/us/politics/trump-animal-cruelty-bill.html

I heard of a guy several years ago who mixed up a batch of rotenone and raw ground beef. He got on his golf cart one night and distributed it through out a neighborhood that was taken over by feral cats. I don't recall who it was, and it damn sure wasn't me, but it sure took care of the problem. He saved a lot of baby ducks, birds, and other animals. I certainly don't promote that, but it was very effective and cheap.

Years ago, Nova had a piece on feral cats in England. They are devastating to the song bird population.

I guess I'm prejudiced against cats anyway. Main reason, my daughter had a cat when she was young. One night, it got in a fight with the dog and when I went to break it up the cat bit me on the hand, through the fingernail.. Hurt like hell. Took a couple of Tylenol, went back to sleep. The next day it was sore but that was expected. Around noon I was reading a story about the bacteria cats and dogs carry naturally in their mouths. So, I made an appointment with my Dr that afternoon and she admitted me into the hospital immediately. I was put on a strong antibiotic but it did no good. Another Dr. looked at my hand and said he was going to put me on another antibiotic and if that didn't work he would have to open my hand up and drain the joints as it was swollen really bad. That night the meds kicked in and I had green crap draining out of my hand. I was in the hospital a week. The Dr. said if I had waited another 8 hours I would have probably lost my hand and most likely my arm. I was lucky. I know dogs carry the same bacteria but its the teeth that make the difference. A dogs bite will tear so the bleeding can flush the wound, A cats teeth are like hypodermic needles, it can place bacteria into a wound but they hardly bleed. This is why I hate cats and consider them nasty.

My neighbor about 300 yards away has feral cats in his hay barn. He says his wife doesn't feed them, I don't believe it. When the cats/kittens wander over to my place my Pyrenees eats them.

You either love them or hate them. I know of people that like having them around for mice, others hate them.
I had an outside cat when I was a little boy that used to leave birds, squirrels, cottontails, etc on the door step for us. He was a good cat but he was a efficient killer too.
I have cats now but we keep them in the house! I WISH they would learn to hunt and kill though. My cats are sissies!
I can not keep an outside cat, I don't think it is very smart.
