All this extra time on my hands has got me thinking that I need a handgun specifically for hog hunting. Most common scenario would be brushed in ground blind 20-25 yards from a feeder.
Have looked at 629, Super Blackhawk but wondering if any of y'all have hands on experience with 10mm auto for hogs? My budget is $500-$700 so pondering a Glock 20 or 40.
Whatever I choose I am not concerned about carry. Only target shooting and hunting.
Thanks in advance for enabling my boredom fueled gun shopping.

Very nice. I've looked at that one for sure. Trying to decide what my actual max budget is.

10mm would do the trick. Glock would probably be best for in that price range.

I shot a few with a 357 Mag. Can’t remember the bullet I used.

I’d go 357 or 44 revolver in a smith or ruger.
You aren’t likely to get more than one shot anyway, so the auto leaves you with a crappy trigger and extra crappy sights (assuming Glock). Although I read on the internet that the 10mm has some mystical powers, so maybe I’m missing something.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

A 6” S&W 686 or 629 (if you like recoil).
Or a Sig 220 as Charlie posted.

This would get my vote, but if you're thinking about deer at some point I'd also consider a .44 mag (629).

I would go with the Super Blackhawk for its ability to handle hard hitting (and hard recoiling) loads as well as 44 Specials.

There are so many factory loads available for the .44 Mag you can find something suitable for just about any scenario. Plus you can get (or make) a really nice trigger pull on the Super Blackhawk. Also, place more than one type of load in the cylinder. IF a really large hog shows up and you want a heavier, harder hitting load, just rotate the cylinder. The hunting set up you describe is perfect for a single action revolver. I wouldn't use a semi-auto in that setting, it brings nothing to the table. I like 10mm but it doesn't really begin to shine until you need to reach out farther than 50 yds. 44 Mag will serve you well and even the factory sights on the S/B are plenty good for what you will be hunting. Put shots square on the shoulder or at the juncture of the shoulder and neck and your hogs will drop right there.

Although I read on the internet that the 10mm has some mystical powers, so maybe I’m missing something. As stated, a revolver seems to intrinsically have better accuracy. I use my .357 Ruger Blackhawk on pigs. It is very accurate out to bow ranges. The .357 mag seems to drop them much better in real life than it does on paper. I handload 158gr xtp/fp, and they are stout, but I am sure that you could get similar performance from Buffalo bore or any one of the high performance ammo mfgs out there.

I have the Glock 40 in 10 mm and have been trying to get the trigger to my liking for a long time. I did the 25 cent trigger job, changed three different springs and replaced the trigger connector with a ZEV. Yes the trigger has improved considerably but the gun still jerks to the right when the trigger is pulled unless I hold it with two hands in a iron grip. Have a Ghost Angel connector on order which is supposed to take out the wall and give a consistent pull. I also added a Houge rubber grip that helps. If I had to do again I would of saved some extra money and purchased a 1911 in 10 mm. The Glock has a viper red dot on it but I am more accurate shooting a 357 revolver in single action with iron sites.

Hunting specific handgun should pretty much always equal 44 mag in revolver of your choice. Too many different loads and bullet combos to make anything else close, and if you reload, that just adds to it. Add in the fact that a 44 mag has as much power at 100 yards as a 10mm does at the muzzle and the old 44 looks even better. Damn, two pistol hunting threads in a couple of days is making me want another 44.....

That's what I use. Remember the longer barrel you pick will generally give you more accuracy and less recoil.

Big fan of Ruger Blackhawks and the 44 more than fills the bill but I might suggest looking at one in 45 Long Colt with interchangeable cylinder for 45 ACP. A little more juice than the 44 and the 45 ACP is some cheap plinking. I don't own a 44 anymore but I do have 45 Long Colts. The Ruger has a much stronger action than the Smith.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I have to agree with the revolver guys on this one, 357 or 44 mag in a Ruger Blackhawk or SBH will serve you well.
