Little guy is different market. I would hire the little guy. The big machine is too costly for me to hire. Tractor trailers are expensive to get down the road. The big machine is rightfully going to have a minimum hour I would have to pay for. My 70 acres is not enough work for the big machine. But a rig like Jes is looking at, I might hire him for two or three days, and come out cheaper than the big machine. Then off Jes goes to the next 10 to 200 acre piece of property, with his one ton truck and gooseneck trailer.

I hope he makes a fortune and stays really busy.

If he does this, gurrrr-own-TEED that he’ll do dang well.

Maintenance on those machines is expensive and often if you are running them every day. A guy I work with was renting a Cat with a Fecon head and running it 3-5 days a week 8-10 hours a day. It broke about once a week and was costing him a lot of his profit. He ended up going another route and bought a 150 horse tractor and a 16 foot batwing and is mowing ROWs for pipeline and power companies. He started that in November and already has 3 crews running 4 days a week.

Just food for thought.
