If and when it does fall, how far will those cinder blocks and bricks scatter?

I just took another look at the live video and it sure does look like they are scared to knock it down.

They need a Ford to get the job done today. This Chevy - or Dodge, can't quite tell - is not working out too well.

Loop a cable around that cooling tower and pull the whole thing down with a SuperDuty!

Hopefully this video survives the next Big Bang, about when the demolition will be done, so future civilizations can learn from history.

Chopping down a tree from the top. Why aren't they swinging that ball into the side of the structure at the base?

Chopping down a tree from the top. Why aren't they swinging that ball into the side of the structure at the base? I think there is a building pretty close to the other side . I think thats the reason to bring it down in pieces. Seems the weight and the lean is pushing towards the other building.

I bet you this was the only crane/ball combination that was available at the time that could get here.
The demolition company wanted anything they could get just to get started.

I bet 5 THF'ers with their trucks loaded with their best toys and a cooler full of cold beer could have had that sucker down in less than an hour. Bunch of rookies!!!!
On a side note: I guess there is no danger of it falling over so just leave it. Seems like it has become an unofficial tourist attraction.

Job security if you ask me. . Getting paid by the hour, not the job. Watching a little of that reminds me of why tack hammers are not used to drive railroad spikes

That crane operator doesn't have a clue what he's doin'. Have you operated a crane? Are you familiar with the moral and legal liability crane operators are bound by? Do you know what his instructions were going into this project? How about the fall radius of that structure and the location of his crane?

Chopping down a tree from the top. Why aren't they swinging that ball into the side of the structure at the base? It’s highly unlikely that’s a safe thing to do. That structure is unpredictable, at this point, and the crane can only get so far away.

I drove by it today. Almost stopped to give my novice opinion.
I’m pretty sure the company is dragging this out for free publicity.
