Theres been a lot of discussion of the heavier class of bullets for medium size game+.. but I'm curious if anyone has been using there Ham'rs for hunting coyotes etc.? Especially which rounds you chose and why Are you just wanting to kill coyotes or hunt them for the pelts? If you just want to kill them the Hornady 110gr SP, Speer 125gr TNT or Speer 130gr HP are all excellent choices. If your after minimal pelt damage the Speer 150gr HAM'R BONDED should work well. No, dont want to sell the pelts. Just hunt them for the 'pest control' aspects of it. They can be a problem around here and I just thought it'd be good discussion for the sake of the round.. sure it's not really a 'long range' caliber but I think it's a little underrated from that side of hunting.

i wish that was my kill. a young friend of Oinks shot it. having heard about many of his hunts, im guessing he shot it in the chest and it came out the back or the kid hit it on the run. i think hes about 15 and has close to a dozen yotes to his credit since recently acquiring a hamr.

I think the Ham'r is a prime example of what so called low velocity cartridges can do in the HUNTING world. I am an old goat and have shot many rifles in my days but have never been a fan of the high velocity rounds. In my work SEVERAL years ago the military sniper rounds velocity were around 2600 fps because of the accuracy node. ACCURACY out weighs everything else when hunting plus the fact that many cannot afford a 5K plus so called long range rifle. Most of my hunting has been in East Texas where a 200 yd shot is the exception not the norm.

That’s pretty impressive results there.. I’d say he knows what he’s doing and clearly the Hamr has no issues with doing it’s part either

Years ago you had to go bigger to get better but now calibers that would’ve been thought too small or not enough are suddenly capable of taking much larger game

It's just me, but I'd snip off the ear tag before taking the picture. 'Better marketing.

I got a box of 135 FTX's in the mail the other day. I got an average of .990" base to tip length. I made a dummy round at 2.26" overall length and the base of the bullet went past the base of the neck and into the case about .100". While I didn't get a good measurement of distance to lands, the cartridge base to OGIVE was .030" less than with my 130 grain HotCor load. So it should be that much further from the lands, in theory anyhow. Also the cannelure looks like it's going to line up almost perfectly at 2.26" OAL. I'll start working on a load up as soon as I get opportunity to and share what I find.
God bless.

The following load is giving me sub-inch accuracy and decent chrono #s Hornady 135gr FTX, 2.255" - 2.260" OAL (cannelure is properly located for the HAM'R) 27gr CFEBLK lot #4 CCI450 Sig mfg case 2440fps from a 18" bbl This bullet takes less powder to reach the same velocity and hits max pressure faster than the Speer 135 HAM'R BONDED I've been testing. I think the above load is close to max., but I'm not seeing any pressure signs in 3 different barrels that concerns me. As always start low and work up!!! Will try to kill a hog with it in the next few days and see what terminal performance looks like.

See below recovered bullets that were shot through a 150# hog and recovered in water behind it. Retained weight 96gr and 99gr

Same gas block? Yes sir. I know they recommend on the website to buy an adjustable gas block but so far I haven't needed it. I've been shooting the 125 gr sierra ph but am planning on trying some of the other options.

Bill, Have you done enough testing of the 2 bullets, 135 Bonded & 135 FTX, to have a feeling if one is better than the other? Thanks Daniel
