I was thinking about this recently - how high is too high? My tallest blind is a box blind I built using 10' legs and it has a great view. I was out with a friend of mine a few weeks ago checking his blinds, and he has one that has a metal base with 20' legs. I crawled up the ladder and looked out - that 20' makes for a commanding view of the countryside, but also a bit on the vertigo side for me.
Was talking to another friend who said that when he bought his place, it came with a blind with legs at 42'. He said he has climbed up twice to hunt, but both times he was so nervous that he no longer hunts from it. I went over to his place recently and he showed me this blind. And while I did not measure to confirm the height, I can emphatically say I would not climb that high to hunt. Too far up for my tastes.
Anyone hunt regularly from that high? Higher? I think you would have to practice shots to be accurate, but maybe not.

I am to the point where lower is better and on the ground is best. I would like to have watched them standing up that 42' tower.

It was there when he bought the place, so not sure who built it or how, but 42' seems like a bit of overkill to me. I have a tree stand that is up at 16', but I always wear a harness when climbing/sitting in it and feel fairly comfortable. Will add, on the 42' blind, he said it is pretty solid, but can still feel even modest breeze making it sway - no thanks.

Our tallest is on a 21 ft base; we call it the Gentleman. I rarely hunt it...

Not a blind, but I regularly climb pine trees to 30+ feet back in Arkansas and Oklahoma. This is big timber country, and from that height, you can see a country mile. It gets kinda interesting when the wind is blowing.

a good blind lets you see the Rattlesnakes, and has a Cot to sleep in, while you wait out them Snakes.

My tall one is 10 feet, floor to ground. I like it a lot.

Following. I want a couple of blinds as tall as I can get WITH full stairs and handrails. (I'm not schtupid!) There are a couple of spots on my place that I want them for the view more than killing something, but I'd put a feeder up for sure. I've climbed a few windmills and we sold (and I "flew") aerial devices, a.k.a. "bucket trucks" as high as 150'. (You read that right.) I wanna be around as long as possible with the grandkids. I'm not climbing anymore ladders to get in a dam blind.

My tallest is 18' to floor of 4x8' 2 person box blind. It is on two commercial 9' tall sections of scaffold. The scaffolds are 6' wide x 10' long between the uprights, stacked two high and I have 3 12' 4x6 treated beams that holds up the box blind and a 2' porch. My son built a set of steps with handrail out of 3" angle iron to get up to porch for my Dad before he passed away. I can see a little over 400 yards in a couple of directions but most are limited by brush. It is guyed on 4 corners and still dances a little since the 8' sides face the prevailing north and south winds.
My brother had a 4x4 box blind on a 20' angle iron tower and even after we guyed all 4 corners with 3/8" cable it still danced in high wind. He hunted out of it and liked it but he also spent some time operating a tower crane.

I have a 5'x8' box blind on a pallet rack, 17' to the floor.

I have one seventy foot from the bottom ground...it’s right on a cliff, and has 4’ legs.

as a kid growing up, we had a lease west of Llano bordered by hwy 29 on our north, there was a granite outcrop about 1/4 mile from the hwy and a very tall tower blind sitting on top of the granite with guy wires running down to heavy steel stakes hammered into some cracks. It was an 4x4 blind that the door had blown off, opening for shooting (no windows) and from floor to the granite was 18-20 feet. But from the granite on down to the edge of the valley at the base of the granite was another 15-20+ feet, felt like you were really high, cause you really were and could see all across the valley for several hundred yards to the west. It was spooky to climb up or down and even worse when you got up there with any wind blowing cause it would sway a foot or so back and forth. Dad's hunting crew named it the "buzzards nest" and when I asked why they called it that, they said cause if you fall out, a buzzard has time to build a nest in your a$$ before you hit the ground.

I am another pallet rack user. 12' tall rack with a 4'x6' blind. It is anchored to a tree stump centered under the rack so it takes a lot of wind to make it move! It is high enough, not sure I want to be much higher!

It’s not mine, but my brother in law and I built it for a family friend. 10’X10’ box with a 36” catwalk 360* around. 20’ to the catwalk and almost 30’ to the peak.

I worked at Conroe Creosoting Company in the early 1980s...and we had several blinds that were built on top of 40 ft. CCA-treated telephone poles (used poles that didn't pass inspection for straightness). They were buried as deep as we could get them with six foot boxes on top. A couple actually had trap doors up to an open 4 foot wrap around on the top. Never measured them but a couple had you well over 35 ft. off the ground if you climbed up to the penthouse (few did). I don't know that I have any pics...will look!

Hunted with a buddy in San Saba both of his blinds are 28 ft tall.He has them set on solid rock and guied wired off.Has a extension ladder wired to the side which is straight up.I made that climb 3 times it has a great view but I just couldn't make that last climb on that 2 day hunt. Hunted from the ground on the last hunt still saw plenty deer not nearly as nervous(me not the deer) still had a great time .

Mine was on a 20' base but it was too high because of many big trees so I made 2 10' bases from it. Tallest I hunted from was in south Tx brush country, 42' single pole with a seat, platform and rail on top. Too many guy wires to count, anyone falling out would be cut into many pieces before hitting the ground! And it was leaning and swaying.... I climbed it in the dark and would never have climbed it if I had seen it in the light. After sitting down I white knuckled the rail until my hands cramped, rifle still on my shoulder. Watched a bobcat and several bucks and decided there was no way I was going to shoot from there. To get up and down you had to climb out around the platform, no center hole to go through and the foot pegs were just bolts barely big enough to keep a boot on. I think it took at least an hour to get back down and I kissed the ground upon contact. Total waste of a morning on a big buck ranch...

I use to hunt one that was 24 foot at the base. I’m glad it blew over. It was too tall.

Ha - that is cool! I bet it requires a bit of practice with a gun to get shot placement right! Need binoculars to see the ground!
